This from 2yrs ago on the 2nd investigation…….

Yup Abramovich bought Vitesse in 2010 through nominees and the rumours started with a procession of Chelsea youngsters loaned there, but Netherlands FA investigation shortly after the purchase and a 2nd in 2015 didn't manage to uncover the financial trail or management influence so nothing happened. If took one or more of the ICJ leaks, particularly the Cyprus leaks, for the financial trail of loans/funding through various offshore companies to provide the evidence a couple of years ago.

I forgot to add that the 18 point penalty results in Vitesse being relegated

Vitesse have already said they are not appealing
Vitesse were almost certainly going to be relegated anyway, they were already in last, 8 points off safety, 7 off the relegation playoff spot with only 4 games left. Probably easier to deduct points from a team in that position.

They had 17 points, so now have -1 point. Relegation now a certainty and even had they appealed and succeeded with a reduced points deduction , still likely to have been relegated

Arguably let off lightly as likely to have gone down before points deduction - maybe should have got a fine as well as a points deduction as Abramovich pumped in £100m (big money in Dutch league) which will have given them a big playing advantage over other Dutch clubs so sending down others in previous seasons or spread points over 2 seasons to ensure it had a bigger impact ?

points deductions get carried over to next season in England if the team is already relegated, right? There's basically no punishment in deducting points from a team that's already going down barring a miracle.

Yup that's my point - the 18 point deduction looked good but its actually changed nothing that was happening now, so actually the points deduction 'pointless' (no pun) so there should have been other sanctions alongside, either some points deducted next season or a big fine or whatever

Would you be a glass half full or glass half empty person if the same fate befell Chelsea and they got an 18pt deduction in a season when they were already going to be relegated?
