I wonder how seriously they have looked at renovation. Clearly the revenue would be significantly lower, but so should (I think) the outlay.

- building a narrow additional tier on the Bobby Charlton stand - effectively overhanging the railway. perhaps with the corners adding 10k-15k
- removing the roof and building a modern roof, perhaps with the Kings Cross style overhang to create public space that they've gone for here.
- under the new roof, build expanded councourses around the three non-railway sides of the ground

I've seen figures such as £1.5bn for renovation, but wonder what this is and whether they've really properly looked at the options. If the above was available for (say) £600m-£800m, it may be a better investment.

What I've described above would increase matchday revenue by perhaps 25-35% and would give them the second largest club stadium in Europe
