1882 Concerning 1882: A View from a Season Ticket Holder

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

On this point, the two 1882 games I have been to I have been in the West Upper as I was taking my old man and he just likes to take in the game from a good view point. If I had been going on my own I would have bought in with the 1882 lot and sung all day long.

The Eriksen chant that is to the tune of Agadoo. Didnt have a fucking clue what you lot were singing and couldnt join in. Most other songs that were simpler I was joining in with because I could work out the words.

The point of this post being, yes I agree with the quoted sentiment with regard to songs being contagious and that perhaps concentrating on this idea will help everyone else get involved, if this is the main aim. Not necessarily only well know songs, just less complicated ones that can catch on quicker.

Also, what were the words to the Eriksen chant?

erkiksen sen sen sen tottenham's number 23
eriksen sen sen sen he came to play for avb
to the left to the right he's our midfield dynamite
when he plays for the lillywhites
he makes ozil look shite

No points on the card. No respect from me. That is how i operate.

I don't respect my own dad on the basis he has less loyalty points than me.

Its a harsh world we live in.

:townhmm:

140 loyalty points? Based on todays system Levy must have had you buy 3 of the boxes for £10k a game for 5 years to amass that many, probably buys you a towel at the shop too!

But I want to be in a gannnnngggggggggg. :adeninja:

Do you wanna be in my gang?

everyone is entilted to an opinion, but it does not mean we have to listen to it. We are in a world that everyone thinks that they should not be offended - bollox - 1882 called you out for not singing, either sing or if you dont want to ignore it ( as they are right anyway).

Not everyone wants to sing at the football but the vast majority want to have an atmosphere, that is dying. I was PLU for the Hull game that everyone said 1882 improved the atmosphere and it was loud all around - thats not how i saw it I was looking over at the corner in envy as I was standing up on my own again joining in - it is noticable how different it is even to 5 years ago.

I always thought their was a touch of self deprecation when singing to the PL end....either I am wrong or people are being slightly over-sensitive. I would also imagine that a number of 1882 attendees are PL season ticket holders.

That said, if there is a problem, no matter how small, it should be treated with some respect.

I like to call people cunts but I'm not sure anyone has been a cunt by raising any issues.

"That said, if there is a problem, no matter how small, it should be treated with some respect. "

Why? serious questionm, people can have a problem and be wrong - This is crap Football is a place to sing, it is a place to be agressive, did you not know that before you went? (not you) if so you went along and now you think everyone shoudl change their behaviour?

The people who sit in PLL have sat in the "hardcore area" and in that area we expect the atmosphere to come from. If it is not expect a dig or move.

I go to about 8-15 games ayear and take the critism of the guy that he goes every game, I dont like it but i dont try to excuse it. Perhaps others can take a bit of critism

I have no loyalty points but stood on the shelf in 1991 on the terraces and helped two streakers get onto the pitch to protest against the gulf war when we played Man U on New Years Day.
+1 million points
My old man and my uncle brought a chicken into the ground in 1978 (Ricky and Ossie's 3rd or 4th game - I can't remember, I was 4) and got it on the pitch. By osmosis, that's gotta be worth a shed load of fantasy points?

On that tip, any chance of getting another live chicken in? That would be awesome.

1882 Causes Issues, but it’s also Good for the Club

First of all, I have been a season ticket holder at Spurs for almost 20 years now and an away game regular. I am only 25 and have grown up with the club. I don’t know any different. I have also been in and around a very hardcore bunch of spurs fans who travel the world to see them and have been going for over 40 years. I am a vocal Spurs fan who sings, shouts and lets my feelings […]

This is how I feel as well.

1882 is a great initiative, but for the movement to be successful, the people involved needs to be a bit humble. The mission is to improve the atmosphere all over WHL. To achieve that, it's more efficient to sing songs like "Glory glory hallelujah" trying to get the rest of the crowd to join in, rather than "shoes off" or Nicola Berti songs that is more likely to create a divide within the ground. I personally love the Nicola Berti song and have been singing it for years, but perhaps it works better in pubs.

Also, when I go to Tromsø in a couple of weeks I will probably know, or at least recognize 50% of the people in the away end because these are people I've met or seen following Spurs all over England and Europe for years. Looking at photos from the 1882 sections I hardly recognize any faces. For me this doesn't matter as long as 1882 improves the atmosphere, but rightly or wrongly I think this might also be a reason why some people are a bit skeptical.

I personally think that this could have the opposite effect on 1882 now.
I know for a fact that im going to think twice now before deciding to open my mouth and start / join in with a chant because im going to be conscious of whether or not its a "St holder / member" approved song.

FFS. Just bring in song sheets now and be done with a spontaneous atmosphere. :eriksenlip:

Gotta say I loved the rendition of the "can't smile without you" song. A few more old school songs like that will ensure that a few more long standing ST holders will approve 1882!

I if was in the middle of the movement(which I probably would have been if I was still living in the UK), I would start off the McNamara songs and get them going. I assume the Spurs link is obvious for everyone:

Ohh my name is Mcnamara and I'm the leader of the band
although we're short in numbers, we're the finest the land
we play at wakes and weddings, and all the fancy balls
when McNamaras band get's here, you know we'll give it all
Lalalala, lalalala, lalalalala TOTTENHAM, lalalala lalalala lalalalala

Ohh the cockerel crows the whistle blows and now we're in the game
it's up to you, you lilywhites to play the Tottenham way,
there's many a team from many a town, and some are great or small,
but the famous Tottenham Hotspur are the greatest of them all
Lalalala, lalalala, lalalalala TOTTENHAM, lalalala lalalala lalalalala

Ohh we're marching into Europe in the shape of Jimmy Greaves,
we humbled the Italians, put the Germans to their knees
Oh you've never seen anything like it in the present or the past
and as for fuckin' Woolwich you can stick'em up your arse
Lalalala, lalalala, lalalalala TOTTENHAM, lalalala lalalala lalalalala

Ohh United got the Stretford End and Liverpool's got the Kop,
but bring'em down to WHite Hart Lane we'll beat the fuckin' lot
Ohh the Woolwich got the North Bank and Chelsea got the Shed,
but bring'em down to White Hart Lane and they'll be fuckin' dead
Lalalala, lalalala, lalalalala TOTTENHAM, lalalala lalalala lalalalala

Got a few more verses in this video, but I don't expect to hear them at The Lane any time soon :roflmao:

Some great replies on this thread i must say. I think it's all down to what you want from your football, and we Spurs fans are very lucky indeed. I grew up following Spurs everywhere, for a long time i made the mistake that the result was all that mattered, and i was wrong. Check out this vid of AFC Wimbledon fans, the bloke at 3 minutes sums the game right up for me.

I watch a lot of non league football now along with plenty of people disillusioned with top flight football. The attitude is "win or lose were on the booze" and it's refreshing even liberating. Last saturday i went to Salisbury v Dartford in the FA cup, Dartford lost 4-2 but it was a cracking day out.

It's how i see a match with 1882, have a few beers get in the ground and sing your heart out for the lads, simple really, football should be fun but the modern game has got far too serious. I remember cup finals back in the 70's and 80's, the losing team's fans would applaud the winners on their lap of honour, you don't get that today, Wembley is half empty before the final whistle!
1882 brings that sense of fun back, and i'm all for it.

I was referring to the dismissive attitude in some of the responses specifically but also because the person who wrote that was merely highlighting something that is evidently not isolated...and 1882 isn't a decisive 'movement' - so calling some a cunt or telling them to fuck off (not you) seems not just unnecessary but disrespectful.

Right, well I thought I'd wade in and make a strong first post... Whilst this article raises some respectable points, quite frankly I disagree with a lot of it. I'm sympathetic for the families at the Espanyol game but that I'm sure will easily be fixed for the next friendly and *cough*family stand*cough*.

Secondly how can anybody have anything against this movement? It's pretty much the last good thing left to do with our fans. I admit I haven't been to many games in recent years but my dad's the one who lives in London and until I'm able to move and go on a regular basis I'll be going once a month at the absolute maximum. Anyway I went to the Newcastle game, first league game since January and it was horrible, absolutely shite. Not because of the football we played, I actually thought it was quite good, but it was ruined by fecking idiots around me who didn't have a good word to say and seemed to enjoy booing :avbfu:. Then checking out social media afterwards and seeing so much hate for both AVB and Townsend continued from the game. The AVB stuff has been going on for a while and it sickens me but the Townsend stuff... That was way too far, the lad pours his heart every game and has been exceptional so far what more do people want?!?

Anyway it was this that convinced me so strongly things needed to change and the 1882 certainly seems the best way to do this. I won't be going to any 1882 games soon as I live too far away for an evening game, especially with college the next morning but I want to do all I can until either I can make a game or just do something at other games.

Is there anything you guys do at normal league home games I can join in with? Anyway sorry this went a bit off topic, there was just a lot I wanted to say.

I got another song request by the way.

At the next 1882 game I'd love to hear a proper version of "it's a grand old team to play for", and please finish it off properly. It's embarrassing how this great Spurs chant disappears halfway through. I usually find myself singing the last few sentences on my own in block31.

I still got my season ticket, but usually don't do midweek games as I live abroad. That's why I still haven't made it to a 1882 game yet.
