There's another one, it's meant to be unpopular as the thread title demands.

I think a lot of that's fair and I think there's a lot he needs to work on but I don't agree that the team collapsed the moment he became a regular. I think the midfield 2 got overrun all last season, even before he came in. We lost 4-1 to Leicester with PEH and Bentancur starting and then Skipp came in the next 2 games after Bentancur got injured and put in a good performance in the win against West Ham and probably MOTM performance against Chelsea. Pretty much everyone was terrible in the run in but the midfielders were being made to look worse by being outnumbered in the shit system.
We had 1.88... PPG with Bentancur playing, which would give us 71 points over a 38 game season, which would tie us for 4th with Newcastle.

We had 1.5 PPG with Skipp playing, which would be 57 points over a 38 game season, and would put us at 10th. We collapsed.

Yeah Skipp is the definition of bang average HG midfielder. He’s not offensively bad or anything but nor does he really provide anything but an engine, enthusiasm and recycling possession.

I still think Hoijberg has a role to play at the club...

Saturday was a prime example:
He's not here to create or win a game single handedly...

But he CAN help close a game down, kill it when needed, and nullify the opposition if we occasionally have to go defensive for the remainder of the game just to see it out (Saturday is a prime example, even though we did get a 2nd and I don't remember him coming on.... Maybe That's the point of him!

He was being misused by Conte by being USED too much...

I have many unpopular opinions

1) Academies are not a first team breeding ground and fans need to get their heads around that.
2) "Entertaining" football is an oxymoron. It's not nice playing pretty passes and getting beat, it's entertaining winning regardless of how you play and everything in the middle
3) Poch was over rated and good all in one. His best years came after he and Paul Mitchel brought in some absolute game changers and Harry Kane emerged. Take Mitchell out and the signings got embarrassing and the team dipped
4) l always had a lot of time for Jenas.
5)I was quite happy to sell Robbie Keane. Berbatov was making him look good for the last 2 years he was at Spurs. he was never the same after that
6) The 90's weren't that bad. We saw Gazza, Sheringham, Klinsmann, Anderton, Ginola, Judas, the old stadium grew, we won 2 cups, had that epic run to the semi final for 1995 FA Cup. I often feel like I had more fun as a Spurs fan then but it could also be because I was a young teenager and it was all new to me

Wasn't saying he was better than Bentancur because he's obviously not, just that the midfield got overran all season and teams started exploiting that by sticking an extra man in there against us. Would be equally unfair to say Porro was the reason we collapsed even though he had a PPG of 1.2 compared to Emerson's 1.7. The system invited pressure on a defence that wasn't good enough and all the players heads dropped for the run in after we went out of all the cups

At the time, Levy was right to accept the invite to the European Super League.

Its only hindsight that makes it a terrible decision.

I'd go even further than that. Uefa want to expand the CL to such an extent we could see teams playing CL games at weekends, forcing teams to play every 2 days. All of that is for money. All of that means us fans who go to games have to pay more to go to more games and also potentially struggle with late night kick offs or kick offs during general work hours etc.

The super league was, IMO, a first shot at Uefa to say "fuck right off, you're taking the piss and we will pull out if you carry on"

Also, as a Spurs fan, I want my subscription fees to go to Spurs, not our rivals. The Super League would have been clubs charging fans direct for access to their games.
