Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

True, but it's the general principle of the modern transfer market.

Don't cling to a situation with Romero that has and will continue to have its ups and downs when such a good exit ramp is available. The old fear of being a "selling club" no longer applies. Everyone is a selling club now.

Not for their best players they aren’t. You think our rivals would entertain selling Palmer, Caicedo, Rice, Saka etc?

They’ll sell of course.. especially if they’re forced to like Woolwich might be with Saliba, but they will fight it all the way. And will mostly make sales on mid tier players in the team and to Saudi.

Nobody is selling their best footballers to stay in line with PSR other than a team like Villa who are in dire straits.

A Madrid might sell a Rodrygo but only because they have Mbappe and Vini.

With your reality, very. He lives a very different life to you.

Why wouldn’t he prefer Spain to England? Many English people do and they were born here. I imagine his wife and family can’t wait to get the fuck out of here.
Nah Tony that BS. They are loaded millionaires. London is the most geographical connected place in the world. Between October and March my lady becomes unbearable. "I need to see the sun! How can people live like this!" Makes out like it's dead horse Alaska, I stick her on a plane to dubai for ten days or some other winter sun spot she's right as...well rain. These people are incredibly privileged they should put on a news channel for 30 seconds. This is simply Romero's agent agitating on behalf of his client now the no ECL football lever is stuck. And for the record my woman is Mediterranean and would not choose Spain or Italy over living in England.

We can only imagine the pain his wife is going through.

Leave "best" players to one side.

Is Romero in the group we're willing to bet big on to be a core, week-in, week-out top performer for the long term?

There has to be some doubt of that, right? Fitness, discipline, focus, the Argentina of it all across all those domains.

Why not cash in while we're ahead?

He’s absolutely in the core of our best players no matter what you think of him. Most reliable probably not but we don’t win the final with Danso instead of him imo.

And we won’t get huge money for him. The club after him are not rich and are Spanish. If we were looking at 80m+ then you’d have to approach it differently but realistically we aren’t.

Atleti spend big all the time, and if we're not getting a big fee then no deal, I'm with you there.

And Romero is class, don't get me wrong. If we sign him to a big contract extension I won't complain. But we all know it's a gamble.

The reinvestment of a big Romero fee could really kick us on in other areas.

They spend big on shiny forwards, they aren’t doing it for a centre back. Even Madrid don’t do it on defenders.

If they are willing to pay, fine. But I highly doubt it. And I don’t think there’s that much interest in him outside Atletico.

True.

Per Transfermarkt, Atleti's record transfer for a defender was £29-£30M for Le Normand (Real Sociedad) last summer... where they also spent £63M on Julián Alvarez and £35M on Conor Gallagher.
