The baying mob demanded that Dier be dropped and we still conceded two pathetic goals. Our defensive problems are far beyond being caused by one player.
Every single player this season has lacked aggression and true intensity in their play. On the second goal Romero can see the player about to make the pass but just decides to stand still with his hands behind his back despite being 10 yards away. Either get in his face or drop off properly. Don’t just stand there doing nothing.

How is he a better passer than Toby? What proof is there to quantify this? As far as I can tell, there is nothing to show accurately the proportion of short vs long passes and what dictates what an accurate pass is. So where are you getting that stat from? If you say it's an eye test I'm afraid you and I can no longer talk to each other.
And if we're using Toby as a comparison, he was a fucking magnificent defender. Dire is not. He's arguably not even a defender at all, let alone a good one.
By default. Mourinho inherrited a team with ageing Toby and Jan at the back. At the start of the 20/21 season Vertonghen was released. Toby was sold the following year.
Dire is there by default not because of merit.
We conceded 2 pathetic goals but outside of that, were rarely troubled and, for the first time in a while, actually controlled possession for most of the match.
I don't think anyone is defending the defence for the goals. I mean, the first was 100% Lloris' fault, but for the vast majority of the match, no one was particularly worried when Villa had the ball.
Lenglet was pretty shite too and is far too laxadaisic IMO, but Dier is this season's scapegoat for the more clueless IMO.

He's mostly been utter shite this season for us, tbh. Responsible for lots of goals and also should've cost us vs Chelsea, very lucky to not be sent off.
And no one is criticising Romero for his part in the 2nd either.
If it was Dier, his thread would be in meltdown.
Like so many in a squad of underperformed, Romero might sub consciously think why bother give everything or think who can say anything to me.
He is at the right club then.

I haven't seen it. The ball hit the back the net and it was still rippling as I was halfway down the stairs.
That's where I am with Spurs now. I've never left a game so early and I'm now unlikely to bother with Pompey or Woolwich at all.
