Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Just watch the moment he gets sent off, and watch Haaland behind him. He's so tired of Romero he's urging him to get off the field, but not in an urgent way, so he wasn't that concerned about the time. It's like Haaland accepted defeat, and the only way to get out of his pocket was for Romero to get sent off.

watching the highlights again on motd. some of the tackles and interceptions he makes....what a player! love having a defender like this in the team. couple more next to him and a new keeper and we will be some side

Don't get me wrong, I like his aggression and he's an excellent player but that tackle on Haaland was just stupid: Haaland has the ball in City's half, neither he nor City are in a dangerous position at all and it was a borderline red card due to the excessive force (I have seen players being sent off for less), so the ref would show no slack for an eventual 2nd yellow case even if it was a borderline yellow; which was shown when Grealish fell very easy and VAR didn't even bother to review the case.

Haaland didn't want it afterwards. As stupid as it was, it looked to have worked.

Don’t think VAR can do anything about a yellow card, except upgrade it to a straight red. Which it obviously wasn’t.

And whilst the Haaland tackle may have been daft, it maybe did help to keep the big mess quiet all game.

I disagree about the tackle being stupid, putting down a marker is still a thing. He’s a wise player and if the ref was wise he’d realise Grealish was hanging a leg and falling over all game. Maybe Grealish should have been on a yellow for simulation

Anyway after that tackle Halaand wasn’t into tussling with any of our defenders ended with a 0.00xg, didn’t have 1 shot and didn’t have a touch in our box.

Job done

It's been covered but there was extra context to the first yellow on Haaland.

The ref was letting too much go for City and they'd already got away with 2 obvious yellows. In isolation it's a stupid tackle, in the context of that sitution in the game, it let the ref know the games was getting out fo control and made him call things better afterward and it also spooked Haaland. The steroid orc went completely silent after that. If not for the very harsh 2nd yellow, that Romero performance would go down as his best ever for Spurs, with that tackle an important part of the performance.

These are the dark arts that make Carragher compare him to the likes of Carvalho and are exactly what Spurs as a club have been missing for years.

Could argue that was a leveller on EH and it shocked him and kept him quiet

We won the game, job done Romero

I have seen players send off for "less" than that (Romero's tackle)
Do you believe Haaland is rattled each time he gets tackled hard in a game and then "turns off"? Haaland's been tackled hard many times before Romero's and still scored goals. If that were the case then every team would do that to Haaland from now on and he stop scoring goals.
The whole City team underperformed in this case, they simply didn't manage to supply Haaland with the necessary ammunition, and that not down to just that tackle.

There’s context - the ref let two City players off from bookings prior so no way is he gonna pivot to a straight red. Clearly trying to let the game flow

Disagree on Halaand / City

Sorry if this is a daft question or already been discussed elsewhere in the thread.

What's the situation with accumulating yellows in the way he has been doing. Feel like he been carded for the last 4 or 5 games in a row. Does that still tot up to a ban and if so at what point would that kick in? Or does the fact he's had two in one game and been sent off amd will now be banned in any case effectively wipe the slate clean?
