Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Here is where I'm at with Romero. I want him to stay and for the club do do everything they can to keep him. We all know the money we get for him won't be reinvested into the squad so I never get this excitement around getting a big fee for him. I remember some naive fans that were happy when we got 100m for Kane!! You are always better off keeping your best players and its particularly depressing when they are only leaving because the club won't meet their ambitions.

However, Romero has consistently let this club down. He's never performed consistently over the season and he has always put his country before us. I want him to stay because he's a top centre back and we won't sign anyone better than him to replace him - Danso is the replacement! But there will be a small relief when he goes because the Romero cycle is tiring and its clear he thinks he's just better than the club.

I always read that people are fine he's looking for pasteurs new and why not, because our club is a mess and players with real ambitions do that.
Fine.

But the irks some of us get with him is not about seeking a new club. It's the fact he, like GLC, more frequently than not, use our club as warm ups to their Argentina games. Romero went a bit further, but I'm not gonna repeat again. How was it not obvious enough they have been basically taking the piss out of us there.
Respect. They had very little of it.

As soon as we stop being a soft touch and indulging players like this, the better.

He should have had legit competition the year after he signed knowing that he couldn't waltz straight back in to be first choice.

Shouldn't have been made captain either but when you're running a youth project you leave yourself no choice.

As much as we blame the players it's our own fault, playing at Spurs is a luxury and you're not held accountable for anything which is why players like him will take the piss.

Tbh with fans like we have, it’s no wonder players want to fuck off.

We are somewhat broken as a fan base and if you think players can’t sense that, you’re naive.

Deary me.

So it's okay to be anything but committed to your club and to play like sh!t from the first game of the season?

We accept players that perform poorly way too easily, but worse is that we always blame ENIC and Levy for all our ills.

It I's pathetic.

Bad as he's been this year, I still love watching him play, stroking passes into midfield, the aggression and timing of his tackles.

He's flawed, inconsistent but I would want to see a Guehi+ level replacement come in before we let him leave. I fear that won't be possible this summer, unless we win the Europa.

How has he been significantly more shit than anybody else? It’s not his fault he was injured and the medical team were clueless. Nor does he choose to substitute himself. That dipstick manager asks us to play this crazy system, any centre half is going to struggle.
All our players seem to do better at other clubs than they do here. That can’t surely be some massive coincidence.

There’s a lot of hot air about Romero but I promise you in a years time VDV will be getting the same treatment and he’ll want to fuck off too.

First game - Leicester. Tone set. He hasn't been injured every time he makes a mistake.

Not worse than other players. I hear tripe that he is a Workd Cup winner - great. Play like one.

Excuses mate.

Sorry Shady, can't agree with you on this one.

We fans have alot to be blamed for, but having Prima Donnas disrespecting our club and being pricks is not one of them. Unless and until one day players pay the clubs to play for them, they as an employee have basic morals, values and principles to uphold to the employers and stakeholders.

I didn't blame the fans?

I'm blaming the club culture and the environment and I'm not excusing his behaviour one bit, all I'm saying is that we have done our part to indulge in his BS and that will always be the case with our players until we get serious as a club.

It's the same reason why our players start to stagnate because they're not made accountable and lack serious competition. the bottom line is there's no desire for the club to push on, it's more like a cushty place you come to to collect a very good wage, live in London and enjoy the best training facilities and stadium as opposed to actively trying to improve - I can see why some footballers would want to take advantage of that.

Romero drives me mad , he practically kicked the ball in his own net in the 4-1 victory over Brazil . He was doing the same shit that he does when playing for us - tapping the ball about as if to say "come and get it" then he loses it to a sharp striker on the prowl . I'll be glad when he's gone , Guehi would be a far better player for us , and Real Madrid want Romero , so get it done at let's put an end to this soap opera .
I had to laugh at that. On the extended highlights it really looked like he should have been playing for Brazil. He was that bad. Maybe in truth he had a good game except for that howler.

I did notice "Cuti" was mouthing off after he gave the ball away to Cunha which led to the goal. No idea who to. It was 100pc the fault of "Cuti".

How bad did Brazil look btw? Fuck me that defending was awful. Tamworth would give them a good game.

My bad on the fans part.

But my gripe with players like Romero is still the same. It shouldn't be because our club has a rotten management and culture. If he's half a decent respectful human like Son I would not blame both of them if they are itching to leave. Because Son wouldn't spout so much nonsense, complaining.

In fact we don't have many of these players acting the way Romero has done. Berba, Modric, Bale, Kane? They skipped training but none of them acted in any form out of disrespect to the club and taking the piss.

It's Romero. Nothing else. The WC medal and his mate Messi's endorsement bloated his head too big.

What difference has Romero done to all those players you mentioned?

As far as I recall all those players refused to either train or play at some point, Romero hasn't done that?

He frankly looked a complete tit after getting schooled by Cunha. Was mouthing off which made him look even worse.

VDV's agents don't keep players in clubs long term.

Even before we signed him i was saying that. if he has a decent season of availability next season, we need to be challenging for things or he will be getting itchy feet. I'm fine with it, same as I'm fine with Romero wanting to go.

We should tell Romero that he needs to be available and performing at his very best if he wants to be allowed to leave. If he plays shit and isn't available as a way to force the price down, we need to let him know that shit can't fly because like you said, VDV will follow the exact same play book eventually as well.

If they want moves they need to fucking earn them.

Wonder how much Levy noticing that the Scouse losing TAA on a free.

The Athletic reporting that Madrid have been grooming/unsettling TAA for two years - like the scumbags Real are. Also reporting that Madrid told Trent last summer that Real weren’t interested in paying a significant transfer fee and only wanted him for free or a cut rate fee - like they offered the Scouse in the winter window after Carvajal went down.

We need to sell Romero this summer … otherwise, given his obvious lack of loyalty, the guy will run down his contract.

If he's lined up a similar agreement as TAA we're powerless to stop that.
