Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Why wouldn't they? Offering a big signing on bonus as a sweetener and it's almost stupid for the player not to wait for it.

When the air of inevitability strikes around a players departure best to sell when your selling position is strongest.

But that's the problem with the typical cycle of player contracts these days........ Over the course of a 5 year deal the strongest is year 3 (i.e. in Romero's case; last summer, but it's only during this season that most fans have turned on him)......... Beyond that; you run the risk of a TAA outcome.

It’s why we should do our best to sell him for the most we can this summer.

Want the fucker gone. Treated us like a holiday camp and stepping stone. Need to stop getting players like that.

What kind of club do you think spurs are? We are a stepping stone to the true elite clubs whether you like it or not. Until we consistently win trophies that’s what we are. I don’t need to list the great players we’ve had in the past 20 years because you already know. They used us as a platform to get to the pinnacle. Even Harry done it in the end ffs. Accept it

He’ll be sold because he won’t sign a new contract. Whether it’s this summer or next will depend on how much levy is willing to lose on him. He’s an accountant first don’t forget.

If he refuses a new deal he should absolutely be sold this summer.... This is not Bale/Kane/Modrich where "one more season" stands to mean much to us either way. It will be a disinterested, physically fragile player counting down the clock and making sloppy blunders amidst the occasional reminder of his underlying quality.

Given his recent success on the international stage, now is the ideal time to sell him and utilize the funds to acquire a player who possesses a stronger work ethic and can consistently deliver results.

You can keep players by showing ambition , it’s something we lack . Romero has seen this & lost interest, that’s not to say his attitude doesn’t stink but if your goal is to tread water players will want out

Yep, that’s the position the club have put themselves in. He’ll be back to his best somewhere else at a serious club.

You mean he'll be pulling an 'Eriksen'.

A class player does not behave like Romero.

Romero is good but; not as good as Ledley, Toby or Jan.

He can go.

Money back or more and I'm happy.

Will not miss his 5 decent games from 27 played over the season.

Yeah I think this is right. On his day he’s great but they are few and far between. He’ll go to Spain and look world class for sure but for us he doesn’t perform as consistently as we need him to. Well obviously piss the money up the wall or wait to sell him on the last day of the window to get as much as we can for him and have to have danso as the replacement. Can see it coming a mile off.

It'll probably be the Croatian lad as our incoming defender.

You all are hilarious writing off Romero and saying it is ok if we sell him. We will not buy a decent replacement on top of that the complete absence of leadership at the club is criminal.

Whilst this is true I'm coming round to the idea of selling him, if this version of Romero was in our 2016-17 squad then he'd cook, he doesn't want to be here and it's pointless keeping a disinterested player so may as well sell - he's not going to hit the level that we want him to anymore whilst being at this club.

We all know Romero will go and win a fuck ton of medals elsewhere. Probably play regularly and become a legend.
We KNOW it will happen.

The noise around him leaving is most worrying because I feel like this is the beginning of a trend. We could keep quality players under Poch, Mourinho and Conte because we were up at the top end of the table and actually capable of being in the CL.

We now look as bad as we ever were before the Martin Jol era. And in that era we lost the likes of Sheringhams, Judas, Berbatovs, Modric's, Carricks to bigger, more ambitious teams.
We are heading back to those days. It is happening and Romero is just the first.

Whatever you think of his ability, durability and loyalty is irrelevant. Next up it'll be the likes of Vicario, Van De Ven, etc. Anyone who has managed to remain "not shit" in the last few years will be getting tapped up soon.
