Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I haven’t suggested as such, but is a bit baffling that Romero is the only defender or midfielder on page 1 of the forum moaning about his mistakes.

Can you point to a direct quote stating that he doesn’t want to play for us anymore? He wants to improve and is ambitious, and wants to play in La Liga one day, what is controversial about that?
He's not talking about "one day" you added that in

I did l, as if you read the full quote in context, it’s pretty clear he’s not handing in a transfer request, he’s answering a generic question about leagues he might like to play in someday. The “one day” wasn’t some wild addition, it’s the natural interpretation when someone says they’d love to play in a league but haven’t spoken to their agent and are focused on finishing the season strong. Is what he said.

It’s not exactly “get me out of here now” energy.

Let me help you out here Beni boy... when a footballer says I'd like to play in a different league it means he wants out but won't put in a transfer request because he'll forfiet some sort of bonus. It's a clear message and he's gone in the summer. You can then switch teams and support PSG or A. Madrid.

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero says he is open to leaving the club at the end of the season and would "love to play in La Liga".
Romero, who is Spurs' vice-captain, will have two years left on his contract at the end of the campaign and is a reported target for Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.

Asked by Argentine journalist Gastón Edul on his TV show 'Los Edu' about his future, Romero said: "I’d love to play La Liga. I’d love to, honestly.
"It depends on a lot of things. We’ll see after the [English] championship is over. The truth is, I haven’t spoken to my agent yet, but I’m open to anything. My goal is always to grow and go to new places to continue developing."

"Above all else, I try to take one day at a time," added Romero. "There are two months left until the end of the season and I'm always thinking about performing at my best. We're in the Europa League semi-finals. It's an important step for the club which hasn't reached this stage for so many years. I'd like to win it."
I'll be delighted to see the back of him.

Messi said he's the best defender in the world, perhaps in an Argentina shirt - certainly not in a Spurs shirt.

Here’s what Ange should do… drop Romero for Danso in the home leg vs Bodo

Let him know that he won’t play the final of we get there unless he’s in form in the PL as well and that giving interviews about leaving won’t be tolerated

Who cares, he's leaving anyway...it's not like dropping him will do us any favours or teach him a lesson, guy couldn't care less.

At this point it's obvious that the guy is only motivated for the EL matches so play him in the EL and Danso in the league.

I think it's a bit more nuanced. Ok, I agree it's a clear message - he's demonstrating openly that he's open to trying something new, as who wouldn't be with the current state of this club?

But I also think he's been so public about the possibility of finding another club, so if and when a club comes in for him, he can possibly use it as leverage to get a better contract from us. I think how we end things with Ange, how quickly and efficiently we move on from him, and how we do in the Europa league will dramatically influence his decision making in the coming months.

Ah, thanks for the lesson, Professor Transfer Window. Appreciate you taking time out of your Football Manager save to enlighten me.

But just for fun—if every player who’s ever expressed interest in another league was “clearly gone,” half the Premier League squads would vanish every international break. It’s called being open to the future, not filing an exit visa. Romero literally said he hasn’t spoken to his agent and is focused on finishing the season strong. But sure, let’s ignore that part for the sake of the doom-and-gloom drama Fabrizio.

And as for switching teams. nah, I’ll leave that to the fans who throw their toys out the pram every time a player doesn’t say they dream of retiring in N17. I’m good, thanks for the tip lad.

Now there’s a wild concept, actually acting like a big club. Maybe, just maybe, instead of moaning about ambitious players wanting more, we could match that ambition ourselves. Get in top-tier coaching, invest properly in depth, and stop treating Champions League qualification like it’s a miracle rather than a minimum expectation.

Crazy idea: create an environment where players like Romero see a future, not a stepping stone. But nah, easier to bash them for wanting to win stuff while we coast in mediocrity and romanticise “the project” like it’s year one all over again.

Ambition isn’t the problem, it’s the lack of it around him that is.

My last post/response on this, so continue with the pitch forks.
