Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Former Spurs striker Teddy Sheringham on Tottenham captain Cristian Romero:

"The biggest game in the history of the club. This is going to be one nervy game and when your captain is not there that does not set a good example for everyone. That is naughty, that is loose from whoever is letting him do what he wants to do.

"How does he even go about that? Is it ok if I go back to Argentina because my boyhood club are playing in an important game... What? Don't even ask the question! No! I need you alongside your teammates in the dressing room to give them some support. I can't believe he's asked the question, I can't believe he's been allowed to go. That sets a precedent that does."

Precisely.

Maybe this is all a convenient distraction to how we ARE perceived in the media...
The mass outcry and column inches taken over a player who isn't even available Sunday, tells me all I need to know where Sky's priorities are...
BAD PRESS FOR SPURS AT ALL COSTS....
forget we're in the driving seat with a 2 point advantage and superior GD...
OUR INJURED PLAYER IS WATCHING HIS BOYHOOD CLUB BACK HOME... ummmm, telling on you!

the real talking point is he doesn't trust our shitty medical department to do him more harm than good if he stays here... THERES yer story!

We KNOW he covers his country more than his club, that news is 2/3 years old... Yes, this confirms it, but it doesn't change the result on Sunday....

Personally, I was more interested to hear about Dom Solanke's fitness, but there was barely time for that, cos Sky wanted to keep stirring shit about Romero!

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a shit look, but there are WAY more important things to concern ourselves with on Sunday....

I was more concerned that half the Leeds team seems to be out injured!🙄

I imagine the vibes in the dressing room are going to be a hell of a lot better with him 7000 miles away tbh.

The guy is a fucking melt.

Its funny the stick people like Danny Rose and Dele Ali got but one thing Ive never doubted was the love they have for Spurs. I want the people in and around the club to get it because whatever his flaws it is Pochettino ethos his players and principles that turned us from being a joke club. Romero Postecoglou Ventkatesham Lange Frank VDV and Vicario and their apologists have pushed us firmly back to complete joke territory. I want Sunday over because only after that can the journey back begin.

He's definitely not happy about it. He probably recognized that Romero is a shit leader and was more than happy to let him piss off to Argentina, but he's still mad about him abandoning the club in a moment of need.
Yes but also now it is up to him now to say Romero is not my Captain. Give it to Davies or Maddison or whoever he feels deserves it from what he's seen. No way now should we be going into the Everton game with that cunt as club captain imo.

Watching the presser it’s very obvious he’s being diplomatic at the start and he doesn’t want any drama distracting from the effort required.

If he didn’t have an issue with it he wouldn’t be phrasing it as if it’s the medical staffs decision and not his.

His comments on Daddy Ben just confirm it!

I don’t think it’s a case of can’t face the fans.

He just doesn’t care or give a shit!

I recall raising the issue much earlier in the season and got some stick for it, but when you had the likes of Palhinha and Mickey arguing with fans after defeats, he'd fucked off down the tunnel. He's never really come across as a 'captain' in matches or outside of them from a fans POV. Makes it seem like it's a BS gift in his contract.
