It's the incredibly annoying way of the modern internet that correctly perceiving the arguments for why it would be best for Spurs to move on from Romero means you have to adopt a comprehensive "Romero is bad" pose and make up nonsense about it being a myth that he was flawless in Bilbao or Qatar with Argentina.
And the propensity for "fans" to completely fucking slaughter all of their own players - all of the fucking time - as if that makes you some sort of oracle if/when they move on. Whatever Romero's many faults he put the team and club on his back and won us a European Trophy. We all cry about wanting winners but can't wait to stick the boot into the one bloke in 17 years who literally won something for us.

The fans ire should have been directed at the naked lack of ambition at board level that led to Harry taking up that position, rather than the player himself.It's so petty and shameful.

Happens all the time. Our fanbase picks on the easy target instead of looking at the bigger picture.
This is why we'll never reach the consistent heights a club of our size should be targeting. And why we remain the butt of so many jokes in the wider football community.
At his best he was excellent for us. If we got a highly focused and disciplined Romero most weeks no-one would have an issue with him at all. The issues with him has always been ill-discipline, injuries, lack of consistency and, at times, questionable effort.
Ironically I think De Zerbi is the type of coach that would probably get the best out of him. Since we'd have more of the ball and play higher up the pitch, Romero wouldn't have as many opportunities to do dumb shit and would do less penalty box defending (which is when he sometimes switches off). Plus he always tends to better and more disciplined under a manager he believes in (Conte and Ange).
There's just too much baggage now, though, and he's clearly a marked man in the PL. Everything points to him leaving and I think it's for the best, both for him and the club.

You think that is crazier than someone who signs a contract with full knowledge and capacity.... for 200k a week and then gets in a strop and refuses to live up to their side of the work without any care for the fans?

I also think it's time for Romero to move on.
A great player on his day...but those days for Spurs are getting fewer and fewer.
But the main thing for me is that he cannot be trusted consistently when our backs are against the wall.
For every Europa final there's 2/3 awful performances that have really hurt us.
These last two seasons have broken the relationships between the fans and some players and I think this one is irreconcilable unfortunately.
It's time to say goodbye.
I don’t think anyone doubts Romero at his best is one of the best CBs in World football.
I think we just all know he isn’t happy here and whilst his ceiling is high, his floor is very low. So if he goes on to be a world beater at his next club I still don’t think that changes the value proposition he offers us.
Of course he will, if he feels like it/isnt suspended/isnt injured....

Fair. I went Romero out in the second half of this season. Doesn't really want to be here, and (in part) due to that isn't captain material. And is a marked man in the PL. And we are in a good position for CBs. Absolutely no problems with this take. My only concern with losing Romero was the Club's history of not replacing adequately but Van Hecke and Senesi are decent enough both in profile and experience.
