Player Damola Ajayi

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I'm impressed Hercules.

fyi, Ajayi was first spotted training with the Spurs first team by youth watchers in July 2023 - so a full 18 months ago when playing for Spurs u18's.

He was awarded his first pro contract less than a month ago - well deserved based upon his performances in a poor u21 team this season.

He is of a stocky build so difficult to knock off the ball although at just 19 (Birthday in December) he is still not fully physically developed.

Aside from playing the winger role he played last night he can also play CM.

But I'm sure you knew all that !

And what a great goal last night - great direct run, a 'give and go' pass with Scarlett (directly out of Spurs academy playbook) and a shot at almost 90 degrees to his direction of travel to fool Elfsborg GK and defenders gaining vital seconds so GK has no chance. Perfectly executed - but he's scored similar in the past for u18's and u21's

I knew none of that , I had never heard of him until last night thanks for the rundown

Never heard of this kid, didn't watch the game...have seen that he's academy & scored...going to be world class and no amount of future (nor past) evidence to the contrary will move me from that position...until he clearly regresses (thus keeping my initial assessment safe), has unreported/factitious injuries, or, in my estimation, loses the desire for WC superstardom...

Am I doing this right?

Is he rated as one that could break into the first team without a loan like Mikey Moore and Williams-Barnett? or likely to go out on loan next season?

Seems really humble and patient for a 19 year old. Madueke and Edwards were already chomping at the bit and making moves because they didn't see a pathway by 19.

I think a loan or two would benefit most youngsters - the reason why Moore (and Williams-Barnett) may never be loaned out is they are technically excellent at age 16 ,,,, but too young to loan out, not worldly wise to live outside a home environment or share a dressing room with strangers nor physically developed enough at the time they start the loan to be sure they will play very much.

Moore is physically reasonably well developed for a 16 year old and is getting quite a lot of minutes, but if he seems to be playing too much, its easy to stop playing him and if necessary play u21's for a few matches - much more flexible than loans these days.

So in short, I think Ajayi will be on loan at start of next season, or even last couple of days of this window as I'm sure a few L1 managers will have seen him last night and thought 'I'd like someone like that'

No.

Thanks mate and yeah that all makes perfect sense. Tbh i doubt Moore ever sees a minute of loan. He's got 2 senior assists and a senior goal in very limited minutes at 17. I think it's just about taking care of him and not giving him too much load, too young now. Seems a well grounded kid as well.

The crazy thing about the season is that Gray doesnt even come to mind because he has played so much and has been so integral to the team

What I would say about Bergvall, Gray - whichever talented youngster - is people should fuck off with prematurely writing any player off after a few games let alone under 20's - These are kids, it takes a second and the only thing they should get is patience and encouragement.

Like any grown individual that sits there and slags off an 18-year-old while they are doing their best to compete and make a career for themselves, in my opinion, is an asshole.

You have to forgive us here at TFC

You see, all of us here are geniuses - we excel at everything we do and we were world leaders in our respective fields by the age of 17. We also have ripped, muscular physiques and are 10/10 in the looks department

As such, we do get a tad frustrated when we see an 18 year old not quite reaching the high standards we set for ourselves and the rest of society.
