Player Dane Scarlett

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Heard the senior squad had a light day/day off and Ange mentioned that Dane’s fitness needs work so I assume Ange wanted him fully training.

Doubt it is anything more than that.
I don't know what to trust from Ange anymore. What fitness he needs from him to just play 20 over minutes which he couldn't even get? Yet he said Tel needed a rest when he wasn't even playing that much in Bundesliga and Ange started him in consecutive games. Bollocks.

Fitness is being used here as an excuse for Tel. Ange must have pushed for him, didn't he call him up in the end and convince him to sign? Isn't (yet?) a PL level centre forward from what we have seen so far that's the issue, all the talk of fitness is just ass covering.

Recalling Scarlett is likely a "club" decision rather than an Ange decision, and if it is he will have been told to give him opportunities.

Now I don't buy the Spurs Academy "accidentally" tweeting an old picture of their very own poster boy training with them the day after he was snubbed for Werner in that game, someone is stirring something, maybe it's an excuse for a meeting or conversation about game time between "the club" and Ange.

Scarlett called up to England U20s, drops down from England U21s. Ash Phillips also in the squad.

No room for Lankshear or Dorrington in the squad.

He'd done well for the U21s as well, but no doubt down to a lack of game time - really ought to be given a proper chance in the dead rubber PL games (same as Kane got under Sherwood), but probably won't unless Ange gets the bullet. He has 10 goals 4 assists in the equivalent of 16 matches for us, Oxford and the England U20s / U21s this season....

I don't think Moore has got as far as the U20s is he still with the U19s?

Sadly Levy will treat him and his contract like an asset and not move him on until it’s too late for him to develop properly.

Levy could at least get a coach actually willing to play youth, but it seems like for whatever reason he is unable to do that. There are at least 10 games a season we play absolutely shit sides where we absolutely could sneak a few kids in. Also when you go up big in games, then you also can put on the kids because it’s safe to do so.

I know you know all this though Nico. Frustrating to watch our club-trained youth be so neglected. Lankshear or Scarlett- Ange doesn’t even have the guts to give them a start vs Tamsworth.
Considering Ange said he would give the kids a fair chance (probably said as much in his interview!), he hasn't really done that, has he? Apart from Mikey, they've only been making up the numbers on the bench.
Not saying the kids are great, but they haven't exactly been given a chance, and as mentioned by many posters, on what planet is Dane a worse option than Timo?

yeah Mikey is playing up a year in U19s. I put the other youth call ups in the youth thread.

I think part of it lately is Ange has been desperate to get more wins/points, so hasn't really felt comfortable playing the younger players. Before, I think he was just being a lazy manager and not maximizing every opportunity to spread minutes throughout the squad.

Sad though because small moments like that can be a major catalyst for personal development, especially for youngsters and players that might be out of form or be in a bad patch mentally.

I read on the Spence thread that when he is chasing the game Ange plays first teamers and doesn't trust fringe players. Well we certainly have been chasing a lot of games...!

Dane's appearances came v Elfsborg when drawing and winning at Brentford and Ipswich. The only time he has come on when losing was vs AZ but that was for an injured Solanke.

Moore hasn't played since he was hauled off at half time twice

Makes sense- agree

He probably includes Gray and Bergvall as kids and has a sort of excuse that putting kids in to a severely injury plagued team would be detrimental.

But, doesn't excuse him

I did post his full stats this season on here before:

Oxford 4goals 1 assists 961mins (10.5 games)
Spurs 1goals 2assists 51mins(0.5 games)
England U21 2goals 1asts 113mins (1.5 games)
England U20 3goal 297mins (3.5games)

Thats 10goals 4assists in 16 games. Now I know that Ange only counts good assists, but certainly the two Spurs ones were decent! Tel would kill for those numbers this season...

The lad needs to play games, Ange (or someone above him - Levy?) decided not to loan him again, so the club have a responsibility to give him decent minutes where possible. Playing Timo Werner instead is just disgraceful.
11 goals + 4 assists in equivalent of 17 games now for us / Oxford / Eng U21 / Eng U20 this season. And still will probably have to leave to actually get decent game time.

Criminal if Dane and Mikey don't get a run of starts in the dead rubber league matches.

Sad to see Dane and Mikey dropped from today's squad. Was an opportunity to give both minutes today. Feels like no one from the academy is going to be given an opportunity despite the games now being dead rubbers. Wasted opportunity and I think it leaves any half decent academy player asking themselves if the club will ever be prepared to give them a run of games.

Scarlett will never make it. Mike’s is so young - needs to really perform to make it or keep a position. That said he would have probably been as much or more use than Richy today. I guess ther is the question about subjecting youngsters to the shit we are in and maybe it’s a blessing in disguise that Mike’s is out of it.
