Fuck Daniel Levy. Yeah maybe your eyes and ears would’ve told you that spending £120m on N’Dombele+ Lo Celso and then another £90m on Johnson+Kulusevski might not be the best allocation of funds. FFS. If what we’re doing is solely data driven we’ve lost already.

Also whilst Levy isn't the cartoon supervillain that people make him out to be, he does have a shocking blindness to humanity sometimes that really does him no favours

A couple of unpopular opinions coming up here:

I’m sure Pleat can spot a player, but can he spot one that is ideal for Ange’s set up, what’s his injury history like, what’s his character like. I don’t think it’s as crazy as some are making out that we’re focusing on the data rather than pleat spotting a player.

Secondly - a seat for life. I get he has done loads for the club, but my Grandad worked his arse off for the Royal Mail - doesn’t mean in retirement he gets to sit in the van with them whilst their out delivering, he doesn’t get his letters any quicker either.

I agree not letting him have a room for his book launch and not selling in the club shop is a bit Schitty though

Sounds like he's just using an excuse to get rid of an 80 year old man tbh.

We clearly do care about scouting (as well as data) considering we hired Rob Mackenzie.

Knew Bhoely's mob and what they're doing at Chelscum was getting him all wet (though they're also buying actual quality tbf).

This window had a smelly whiff of it.

Agree on the scouting point, Pleat's time is just in the past in top level football.

Difficult for anyone to hear / realise that, but it will happen to all of us in our careers.

Whilst I agree that Pleat’s time has almost certainly come and gone, as scouting advances towards data, this does seem an acutely insensitive way to deal with someone who has done a lot of good for the club.

Seat for life? Not sure on that one.

Room to launch his book? I’m sure that shouldn’t have been a problem.

Time respects none of us.

Pleats a great club man, shame they couldn’t have found him another role - club ambassador surely, even simple meet and greets with fans before games and then that’s his seat sorted for life.

He has though had a privileged career, earn’t well above the average and will be absolutely fine financially. Hopefully he has good family and friends that he can now spend more of his time with.

I thought this came over very strongly on the documentary 'All or Nothing'. Whilst media can distort, the bits with Levy in he came over as cold, uncomfortable with people and unable to small talk. A tech nerd with no personality or emotional intelligence.

The bit about the book is probably also because of agreements that Spurs have with whichever publisher that publishes books/other written work put out by the club.

Not to defend the club in any way. But I know that the world of publishing is a jungle.

Why would his 'time be past' if he can see, and I've heard him speak ( he's more coherent than the bloke the Yanks are about to intrust with the nuclear codes) why has his ability to judge a footballers ability diminished? This is a waste of expertise that has served us well in the past. It silly and shortsighted, not to mention mean spirited and scummy.

Exactly. It was only 3 or 4 years ago he was advising that we should sign Eze, Bowen and Watkins. Cant imagine he has lost all his talent spotting ability in the intervening years. Even if they think its time for him to move on they could have at least acted with a bit of class but even that modest hope is beyond them.

Pleat needs to understand that in 2024 we no longer value tradition and class and all that other malarky because it doesn't help us financially. Ever since we started getting into the CL on the regular we abandoned all that stuff, the only tradition we've got left are some old chants/songs.
