Once the graphs come out it’s all over. Those stats don’t have any context.

Most touches in the box…so what if they’re all shit?
Most offensive duels…with who and what was the outcome of said duel? Most progressive carries…also known as the Adama Traore award. Well done on winning that.
Highest chance creation ratio. What constitutes a chance? Who was it created for? What was the outcome of said chance?

It’s laughable how hard people try to pretend he’s an elite player despite all the actual evidence of watching him pointing to nothing of the sort.

I agree. People can make stats fit all kinds of agendas. I have been watching football long enough to know in my own mind when a player is effective without looking at questionable and often vague stats. And at the moment Kulu fails the eye test. Similarly, if you look at Brennan Johnson and at the number of goals he has scored this season you might be forgiven for thinking he is a fantastic winger when clearly he isn’t.

It's complete horseshit and its so fucking selective. If you use some different metrics he's shit. The guy has one great period of form every season where our fans pretend he's elite and then he goes back to mostly being shit. How about stats like he loses the ball far more than anyone else on our team, and the 2nd most of ANY premier league footballer?

The guy is just decent. That's it. He's not awful and he's not elite. He's not a bad footballer. Under the right circumstances and on form he can be really handy. But he's not mobile or really creative enough to be a 10 and nowhere near quick or agile enough to be a winger. He's a solid rotation option in any real top 4 contender.

Living off an elite 6 months with us when he first joined and everyone hit elite levels for a bit. And then now revitalised due to a couple of great months for Ange.

Johnson is the player equivalent of Spurs really...
His goals ARE impressive, and gave won us games... So all good, yeah, YEAH??

...But then you look at his overall game, you'd think it was a different player, severely lacking the confidence that all his goals should bring him!
I thought goals bred confidence?
Sometimes he looks embarrassed to be out on the pitch... which is a shame!

Same as If you focus on our EL Cup Final place, you'd think all was rosey at Spurs... THEN you look at the league table!!!

Unless we WIN the thing, our season will mean nothing.

Luckily, I think we have the keys to the trophy cabinet this time!!!

All pretty bogus, because

a) they are comparing with actual midfielders - which is not. He’s a forward masquerading as one. If that compared him with other wide forwards or pure AM’s it wouldn’t look so good. I’ve posted a fair few of them.

b) none of those stats come with any qualitative context at all, and all the metrics that do offer more qualitative context (XA, XA90, XChain, assists, goals) suggest he’s fucking meh.

c) none of those metrics cover his bumbling around, the fact that most of those carried and touches lead to fuck all, that he loses the ball more than anyone else in the PL and shitness without the ball that costs us also.

Christ, you'd swear people on here don't even want him back fit and want Sarr as the 10
People need a scapegoat/someone to pile on.

Dejan becomes an easy target because he likes to talk a big game.

Once Dejan refinds his form they are going to move onto the next whipping boy. But all it will take is a bad performance and they will be back to pile on him.

Like happens with all our whipping boys.

That United journo is only guessing. He probably just saw that he missed training yesterday after going off early at the weened and is running on that.

The people ITK at Spurs are confident its only a knock and he'll be fine for the final. Assume he'll miss the Villa game on Friday and I doubt Ange will give much of an update on him before then so we probably won't get confirmation until next week.

But that United journo is only guessing and thats why he kept it vague. I wouldn't read anything into that.

There's a classy player in there. Even with lack of acceleration he can make stuff happen and finish well. I'm hoping his current form is just down to lack of confidence and playing in a poor system.

Most of our players have looked shite this season. I'd give him another year under a new manager.

He suffers a bit because he's not an elegant footballer, so the good things he does, he doesn't look "good" when doing them.

When he does something bad, it's exacerbated due to superficial reasons.

He's a good footballer, capable occasionally of being very good. But he's not consistent, and there aren't enough good footballers in the squad to carry him when he's below par.
