Ex-Spurs Player Dele

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I think what you're asking then is for him to be played in a different position than he was last season. The stats Guido posted are for Dele as a central midfielder which is where he was playing last year. He was asked to do things besides create and score chances, he was asked to pressure, intercept and advance the ball from a deeper position. Obviously his output decreased.

It's not on Dele that he didn't have more goals and assists last year, it's on the fact that he was played deeper than he had before because our squad literally had no one else to play there.

I'd like to see him play further up the pitch this season as well, but it's not like Dele was bad last year. In my opinion, the fact that he adjusted so well to a different role shows how wonderful a player Dele is. I have no doubts (except maybe about his hamstrings) that if Dele plays in our front four this year that he'll produce goals and assists again.

I never want to see him play central midfield again, and that’s all due to last season for me.

I’d play Skipp, Dier, Wanyama and even Eriksen there all ahead of Dele.
Needs to be up top or not on the pitch....but but yeah that’s all on the manager.

He played up front in his "good" position plenty of times last season. He literally played next to Kane during the United game where de Gea saved all of his 50 shots.

No, he IS good when played deep, just doesn't assist or score as much ergo as you said "not as exciting". Just as you would expect Kane not to score as much if he was asked to play in that position. My post showed how effective he was as a deeper-lying midfielder, why ignore those details?

Then graph simply compared Dele as a CM to Dele as an AM. It doesn’t say much.

I don’t care about interceptions and “pressure events”.....I’m sure Diers will be similar.
You’re all about the stats now, but none of that mattered for our former RB.

You want to see Dele alongside Ndombele at the expense of Sissoko, Winks and Skipp etc?

Not for me, because I don’t see him as a dynamic player in central midfield. If you ask me, he was played there due to the injuries throughout the squad and I doubt very much he will be deployed there again this season.

If he is, I can see him leaving, and walking straight into a team who will play him where he should be. Probably Liverpool.

But I guess that still won’t be Pochs fault

It's NOT what I want. It's where he played!! If you think he played in the same position last year as he did in 2016 then fucking LOL!!!

He played there because he had to, we had no midfield (Wanyama, Winks, Dier Dembele all injured with the latter sold at Christmas). But he played well there, you said he played "crap" the stats posted are merely there to support the notion that he played well in that role of a CM, that's all.

How have you come to that conclusion?
We’ve just been discussing his two positions.

It’s the same old story from everyone....
“Dele was great and dynamic last season deeper in central midfield ......but I want him to play up top”

Haha

My eyes told me he wasn’t very good. As I said, the graph compared Dele in CM to Dele at AM in two different seasons. Shock horror he had better CM stats when he played CM than when he played in attack.

Is that even a comparison? As I said, I’m pretty sure Dier could have done anything Dele did in CM last season and probably more.
Just that nobody has a wank when he blocks a pass.

You've said he's been crap all of last season. I disagree. I've been saying he was good last season. We've both been consistent on this agreed?

You though by your own admission, few posts up, have been judging him on his previous years, when he played as an AM and even as 2nd striker. I wasn't judging his performances last season as an AM or 2nd striker, I've judged him as a CM, the position that he was asked to paly. As a CM he was highly effective and played as good as any CM.

I don't think CM is his best position however, I'd like to see him pushed on more, I am fascinated if Poch does do this, this season. I like the prospect of Dele's late runs from deep combining with Ndombele's dribbles and incisive forward passing. Both breaking the oppo lines in their own way.

Dele is a cracking player and those runs into the box no one is better at arriving than he is

It’s his prime talent

He could help himself out by improving his finishing mind

This year he’s got real competition for his place. And rightly so

So we’ll see what he’s made of

To claim he was good last season is a bit much. With 13 defeats i don't think there are alot of players we can can claim were good
You have a point about him playing deeper though but i personally expect him and alot of others to perform better this season

True but there is no way i can say he was good last season but the same can be said about alot of players
It does seem last season people like trippier got slaughtered where other players who had equally poor games got a free pass

When a FB gives his own keeper 'the eye' and slots it past him to score, people will remember.... (+ He made other howlers too).

Trippiers two injuries in the season didn’t matter

His World Cup didn’t affect him regarding fatigue like it did the others

His injury during the World Cup meant nothing

His crosses were punts

Every goal was his fault

His 3 PL assists (same amount as Wan bissaka and Dele) in his worst career season we’re just punts into the box

He’s Champo and Atletico are no better than QPR and haven’t won anything

Dele .... unusual for him started the season well and I think he was due a blinder

But he kept getting injured lost his rhythm and his form also
I am not saying there wasn't reasons for him to not have a great season
There were reasons for different players on why they were not great and i definitely think this extra bit of competition now will be good for him
I just don't know how we as supporters can claim he was good last season where someone like trippier was shit
