I recall Rose going to Sunderland and coming back a player. We stopped doing this under Poch and it was a mistake.
I assume the fee was nominal, but I'd be curious to know how much the buy-back is..... Could be clause-driven (appearances, performances, targets etc.) in which case it could amount to little more than a glorified loan; albeit one where the new club are motivated to play and improve him.

That sort of deal (reported 6M buyback) kinda makes a lot of sense for all parties. Sunderland would be delighted to make a 6X profit on a player like that if he blows up.
It aligns the incentives of the parties in a way a loan sometimes doesn’t.
He wouldnt sign a new contract. Fair play to him that he wants to play and do things the hard way.
I don't begrudge anyone with such hunger... Too many young players prepared to cruise, knowing that once they've bag that pro-deal at a big club they're virtually set for life.
Good luck to him, how refreshing to see a young player willing to move down a couple of leagues to ensure regular playing time in competitive matches.
Very nice to see. It is getting more common, finally, to see young, talented players moving from the academies of big clubs to smaller clubs where they get to play actual football. It is better for the kids, better for the clubs they move to, and arguably also better for the clubs which academies they leave - at least if the deal involves good clauses.

Very few academy players would be so happy to leave their clubs permanently and not on loan. Especially considering how highly rated he supposedly was.
The issue at the club is that Dennis had Reggie, Davies and Ryan Sessegnon in front of him.
And maybe we will be signing an experienced left sided CB as well.
Even if he went on loan there was no guarantee he would get a chance when he came back.
Transfer makes sense for both parties IMO.
