Both him and Porro are defensive liabilities. They can't play in a back 4.Nobody has said it yet but since his initial good start he's been a liability. Vdv should be playing there now.

Reactionary nonsense.
his crossing and final third play needs serious work, i can count on one hand how many times ive seen him drill the ball into the box. trent and robertsons crossing for liverpool was an absolute weapon when they was running hot.He gets in good positions when going forwards but his final ball is seriously lacking,so many underhit crosses into the box
didnt watch him before, but is he even that sort of FB? he doesnt seem to want to cross the ball. at least porro will send one in every now and then.Guy clearly hasn't been happy for ages.
I think he hates his role in this system.
Joyless.
Allow him to overlap.
Give him some freedom.
CHANGE SOMETHING.
His attacking attributes are being neutralised the way he's being told to play.
Spence did do well but Udogie was excellent first 45. To be honest his playing in a more mature way this season. Not just bombing forward being caught out of position. That is partly due to Ange.think hes under threat from spence. i think spence offers us a lot more. hes decent udogie but shouldnt be nailed down starter.
Ange is using him in a more orthodox manner and he looks good again. The inverted role isn’t for him and that’s ok.
Porro is the better technician & passer. He was as inverted as ever against United.
Its Porro who's more orthodox if anything.

I'm not sure this idea of the FBs inverting less is actually the way people are seeing it as a tactical tweak to the system.
Seems more like players learning the system and being able to make reads based on the opponent. Each game the differences between where they re positioned seems to change based on what the defense is giving them. Maybe I'm wrong and Ange has told Porro to stay wider and invert less but Udogie looks very much inverted to me. Johnson seems to be closer to Solanke and Porro is swinging in more crosses so it could just be that they have found that chemistry and understanding as combo as opposed to the system dictating either way.
If v you look at Solanke and Kulusevski heat Maps, the CF is in that fluidity as wellFluidity between the FB/#8/Winger will ultimately be key........ Depending on whether the FB cuts in or stays wide (or indeed stays deep) the other two should be able to react accordingly.... Ideally there's a positional playbook for each instance.
