Player Djed Spence

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It makes zero sense this kid has bags of ability. He reminds me of Walker before Pochettino got hold him. Conte is paidc15 million a year to coach Spence needs minutes and coaching. He could be way further ahead already but you just keep beating us over the head with Emerson Royay ....something something hyperbaric chamber😐
Conte being stubborn could be the reason the club really pushed the boat out to get Porro in January.

If Spence was playing we all know Levy maybe uses that as an excuse to not spend on RWB.

Especially if Spence was a year off being ready, this ends up being a double hit as we get Porro and Spence rotation next season and Spence is ready.

Could also be that Emerson has more sale value if he plays more this year. But tbh it’s not 100% that Spence plays well enough to take Emerson’s spot in the rotation

Walker was a pretty good player before Pochettino got hold of him. The making of Walker was the year loan he had at villa.
Hopefully this loan for Spence could be similar for him but like it’s been said many times, a premiership loan would have been better

I recall him at Villa and I think QPR but it was Pochettino that made him less reliant on pace and better positionally. He cut the brain farts to a more acceptable ratio.

People really forget he won PFA Young Player of the Year four years before Poch really got hold of him.

He was absolutely brilliant in Redknapps last season.

Some people need to calm down with the highlight reels. That's a total of 4/5 mins out of an entire game.

No one is posting the moments where he jogs back in defence, or the buildup happens without his involvement.

It's a good start but not worth all the hype.
I don't understand why people make such a big deal out of highlight reels. Any professional can have a good compilation but it doesn't show the most important part of a players game which is what they do off the ball.

Bit like trailers of a film or the one track released on an album there the best bits, I should know I’ve falling for that enough times😳

First game, so not going to go in too hard on his positioning/tracking, at times, when defending, as he needs to get his barings.

But, going forward he's a lethal threat.

I would say RWB is a more natural role for him.

I saw a few clips from the game and all were very positive. However it’s in the French league, only a few clips and as others have said confirmation bias. I want him to do well so I will look more favourably on his performances. I hope he does well, I hope he returns to be a valuable player for us but I don’t expect him to force Porro to the bench. Porro should be the starting player on the right.

I think there’s a bit of confirmation bias at play here, as we’re all desperate for him to do well.

He comes alive with the ball at his feet, he he’s quite passive off the ball. I don’t get the impression that he’s entirely comfortable when he needs to press his man, and there’s a touch of the TAA’s about him in terms of positional awareness.

Still doesn’t excuse his lack of play for us, but I can see why Conte might not trust him. Emerson commands his area far better. He’s just an absolute clown when he passes the halfway line.

Well, then terminate his loan right now! :D :D :D
He is just custom made for Conte then! Lost count in Fulham and Woolwich games how many times our players just stood and waited for the ball to arrive to them... you know, instead making a step towards the ball... leaving comfortable room for opposition defender to steal it.

Yea, but the issue is comparison.

Royal constantly does very little in terms of changing pace of the attack (I mean changing tempo upwards) and creating chances to teammates. But worst of all - he is also overplayed by good attacking players. Sure, with the change of Royal > Spence, we most likely would lose some defensive contribution. At the same time we would have gained a lot in terms of going forward. I personally think that in net terms the forward-play gains would have been bigger.

If not from starting position, for last 25 minutes of the games when we are trailing surely....

Appreciate the sentiment, but claiming that the most important part of a player's game is what they do "off the ball", is literally the opposite of the name of the sport.

Yeah, Kyle Walker won PFA Young Player of the Year and was in the PFA Team of the Year before Poch.
