Rennes suffered their second home loss of the season against Lille on Saturday (1-3). Les Rouge et Noir opened the scoring very early on thanks to a 28th second goal from Amine Gouiri. But the hosts faltered against the Paulo Fonseca-led side in the second half. Edon Zhegrova, Rémy Cabella and André Gomes scored to give the northern side a deserved win. Stade Rennais were without skipper Hamari Traoré and head coach Bruno Genesio gave the nod to Tottenham loanee Djed Spence (22) to occupy the defensive right flank.

As his teammates, the former Middlesborough player started brilliantly in the first half. The Englishman found pockets of space in Lille’s half and played his part defense-wise. Spence made a vital block in his box to deny Lille’s Canadian international striker Jonathan David. Unfortunately, Spence looked off the pace in the second half as Les Dogues dominated proceedings. He was replaced ten minutes from time by Norwegian international right-back Birger Meling.

Still, Genesio was convinced by what he saw from the Tottenham loanee. “His first half was very good. But he lacked rythm in the second“, said Genesio to L’Equipe. “It’s normal. Until now, he hasn’t play a lot with his former club. But he made a good impression for the future.“

And agree- the entire history of Contes rating of players ought to be called into question. It's pretty clear he is, at best, prone to mistakes.
 
Poor half from Spence, the first goal resulted from his missed interception, and the pen they conceded resulted from a cross from his side.
