Player Djed Spence

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If he hasn't shown it in training then he won't be in the first eleven. There were reports of a huge chunk of our players being up for sale even before he took the job. I don't think he's going to have much say about who should be kept.
To he honest, it was just an easy headline for the press...everybody knows we got a shitload of deadwood that needs shifting. But I'm still hoping there's some truth to the allusion that our board (at bloody last) fully acknowledges that and are ready to do what they shoulda done years ago already. Unless the PR dept put that story out to keep a few managers interested in the job...wouldn't surprise me cause that Conte rant and the Nagelsmann thing did some damage. Anyway.

As long as we ship out the Diers, Sessegnons, Lo Celsos and Winksies, I don't care whether Ange had any input. I don't see how a clever football man like him, with his playing philosophy, would care for them wage thieves anyway.

I think a Premier League loan full of starts is his best bet for this season tbh. Unless of course Ange thinks he's more use to us than Emerson.

However, I think Emerson will actually be useful for when Porro gets starts. So I can't see him being moved on unless we got a bid we couldn't reject.

I said the other day that Porro should be played as a winger and not a defender...got a few X for it...though they were from the usual suspects 😄

The kid is brilliant going forward and we've only seen 20% of what he's got in his locker. He can run, pass, cross, shoot...score! He's also got the minerals and the devotion to go press the opposition high up the pitch but also track back.

On my depth chart I'm going with Royal & Spence as our RB/RWB options and Porro/Kulu (or someone new...and HG) as our RW/RF.
Attacking from rw is just so different from playing rb or rwb. Recieving ball with man at your back and in tighter spaces. Porro has a better chance of figuring out rb than he does rw imo

We aren't going to ship out all those people though, we can't even ship out Ndombele and GLC, let alone people we are adding to the list like Dier and Sess, I'm not happy to see Ben Davis being added to the list, I think he's been steady.

Yeah I'm with you re Ben Davies. He's got his limits, sure, but the guy always give you 110% whether he plays LCB, LB, LWB...It's obvious he lives the life of a pro athlete and that he bloody loves Spurs. Dudes like him are proper important at a club. I don't think he's a starter these days, but he sure is in my squad week in week out, you just know he'll do the business or die trying whenever called upon.

We've got 100 players that need calling out before Big Ben. I think Ange will love him to be honest.

Totally agree with your post 👍

MVP MVP I'm not invested particularly one way or the other. We won't find out if conte was 'right" or 'wrong' because that's not how it works that's not how you develop young footballers.

Its not how it worked for Rose or Walker development is a process one that takes teaching a motivated coach loans and strategy. Conte was interested in none of this. It's why he was so bad for us, he was toxic for White, Spence and all the others. He set the conditions that saw young talent want to leave PDQ. The Mundels and Madueke's. He wanted ready made solutions which as a club we can NOT provide. I am delighted he's not around to fuck up Alfie Devine.

First of all I think people understood that Conte is a very ambitious and successful manager who likes ready made quality players. He didn't want Spence but I think it's folly to believe that the only reason that Spence wasn't playing was because Conte wanted to get back at Levy. He coached the team to midtable to CL, he coached Royal to play better. So I think Conte wouldn't be prepared to take worse results by not putting Spence in the team. Secondly the club bought Porro, so now Spence has two players to compete with, there is a good chance that he will be loan. Finally I'm fine with giving youngsters a chance but there has to be acceptance from the club and everyone else, that results are going to be rocky and perhaps we won't be competing for a CL spot for a while. I think this is some of the reasons why the youth don't get more of a chance.

I’m not sure he’s going to be suited to play how big ange will want us to. Same with Porro really. It will be interesting to see what the manager does with them both.

RWB/RWF is probably the biggest question. Postecoglou needs to figure out.

Easiest solution for next season is probably:

Kulu/Porro = RWF
Emerson/Spence RB

Then revisit in January or next summer.

Spence is a talented kid, maybe he can be coached into a FB. Plus one of Postecoglou's FBs always gets further forward than the other.

You clearly didn't read the bit where I said I did not care. The substantive point I care about is the development of young players at Spurs , which because of the way we are run has to be integral part of our strategy. You also compare a player capped at full International level purchased from Barcelona with a player who had played in the championship. I suggest this is flawed and isnt comparing like with like.

Porro was brought to appease Conte who was already seeking constructive dismissal. And I don't think his future is tied to Spence as you think. Either way I think you do Conte way too much credit he seems as far from a dispassionate logical person as one could get. From Juve to Inter to Spurs he has shown a pattern of behaviour that suggest he is fully capable of acting on nothing but impulse. Either way good riddance to bad rubbish, I wake each morning with a joy in my heart that he (and Jose) are no longer associated with my club.

I suspect Levy challenged Conte to achieve top 4. Which could be why youngsters didn't play.
