We have a bit of cover at full back, well that’s news to me
when Spence was at RB in defensive mode he was always looking over his shoulders to check where the outside attacker was (good sign to me, if you watch the other RB/LB's they rarely check)
for the goal he recieved the ball and turned with it (again something most of our players rarely do)
also when playing RB (yes 25mins only) he was playing more defensive than Porro plays
when playing on the Left he played a lot more forward not so defensive (I like my defenders to defend first)

This really is a baffling comment from Ange.
Yes. Archie has done well when asked to play RB. No slight on him at all. But he is not an out and out RB. Djed is the depth at right back and has been misused by Ange so far this season. He could at least have gotten more minutes off the bench.
And let’s be real: if Davies was fit, Gray would have played at RB not Spence.
I can only assume there’s something behind the scenes or on the training ground that Ange does not want to go public with, as Spence certainly seems to be a viable option on the matchday pitch.
I think the honest answer is Ange didn’t seem to think much of him, based on whatever it was that made the last few managers also not rate him - I think last night he surprised Ange by what he can do in a game when called upon, as it appeared his performance against Coventry didn’t get him an extended chance.
I’m hoping he gets further more consistent chances moving forward now, but I’m not buying the ‘we just haven’t had room to fit him in’ type line.

As soon as the words came out of his mouth on TV last night I was wondering what the fuck he was talking about.
We have so much depth at fullback he's run both of them into the ground! I get hes trying to give the diplomatic, polite answer but it does feel like he's trying to gaslight us somewhat. We can all see Porro has been playing with an empty tank for a few weeks now.
He was very solid defensively even playing at LB. Some may say that it was only Soton - but on the other hand Porro when came in had couple of mistakes as usual. Said before, he gets GLC treatment from last year. Dont know why. He could at least rotate with Udogie in past games if Gray is first to cover RB... Would really love to see more a fullback like him that actually tries to tackle and block the cross instead of runing passively next to opponents winger.

Judging yesterday , Djed looks like he is well liked by all the players and played very well . Whatever the reasons are he hasn't been playing doesn't make sense when you put them two facts together .
Deserves a good run in the team now
I think Ange just sees developing Archie as one of his / the club's biggest priorities, and has been willing to sacrifice Djed's minutes for that.

EVERY. FUCKING. PERSON. With at least TWO functioning braincells can see some obvious things -
1) Gray is technically amazing talent - and at 18 yo too! I love him. He IS special. But HE IS NOT A FULLBACK! He does not have required explosive-first-few-steps-pace.
2) When you need goals, DO NOT FUCKING BRING ON DONKEY THAT CANNOT SCORE TO SAVE HIS LIFE that is Werner, when you have our TOP EPL GOAL CONTRIBUTOR Madders on the bench (!).
3) SON IS NOT STRIKER in this system!! He is club legend and elite finisher but he CANNOT HOLD THE BALL UP and press like Solanke does (!).
Only first one is relevant in this context.
Come the fuck on - having Gray around does no way limit moments to give Djed some playing time here and there.
I am not suggesting to make him undisputed starter. But come on - Djed has got some actual playing time in THREE occasions.
vs Coventry in Carabao - scored goal of massive importance to put us level
vs ManU where the game was more or less put to bed when he came on (leading 3:0, playing 11 vs 10) and helped to keep 1 out of 4 clean sheets in EPL this season
vs Soton where he almost single-handedly created opening goal in FIRST MINUTE of the game, setting us up to rampage.
Looking at like this - Spence has now played 140 minutes (out of 360) in the games where we've kept clean sheets.
And with his 186 minutes on the field he has scored 1 and assisted 1.
What more can he fucking do. But Ange still goes to pressers to spout shit about having no options and whatnot. Aghhrrr.
I liked what i seen with his short cameo v Coventry and thought yeah he defo got lot to like and had been disappointed was not being used with injuries we have had and really no real solid feedback on why not..
He looks to play the game on the front foot and always looking and checking his angles and distances to opposition (real good sign)
His turn and movement and then sublime pass for ist goal really set the tone for the game i thought ,also he did everything asked of him and more during game,didnt miss a beat when switched sides either.
Really pleased for the lad and his contribution to the team.
