Player Djed Spence

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He must start against Woolwich. They have a tactic of spamming crosses into the far post, and will target the RB/LB position. Pace merchant in Martinelli will be their out ball. Same as Sterling on the right side.

He'll start at LB of course, but once we have players in/back at LB he needs to be moved over asap.

He will have to continue at LB even after Udogie comes back I'm afraid, he simply looks the better of the two right now. Udogie might be better as a traditional overlapping LB, with limited responsibility in terms of ball retention. But Spence, being more composed and having better vision in general, is a better fit for the way Ange wants to play. I'd even argue that Spence is the better defender as well, so Udogie has some work to do.

This is only a temporary fix though. Someone who will at least challenge Udogie, if not replace him outright in the 11, is necessary in the summer.

Ironically, despite giving Son an assist, Gabriel was the player that won them the game last night.
Djed's pass to Dom with the outside of his boot deserved a goal.
He and Gray look a great partnership, passing wise.
Mr Spence may well become my favourite player. I enjoy watching him play the game of football.

Makes you realise that these so called football experts running the show actually get it wrong as much as the every day bloke. Crazy that he was never even given a chance by any of our managers until now.
Just shows how badly we are run, We had to lose about 864 players to injury before this lad got a small run in the team and he has been one of our best players.

I'm convinced that everything good that happens in Levy's Spurs is totally be accident.

Interesting takes in here.

I thought, bar a couple of moments he was poor last night. Constantly trying to do too much with the ball when there was nothing actually on for him to be trying, jogging back after losing the ball numerous times.

Definitely a player in there but some very poor, selfish choices from him IMHO.

Yeah was shocking - him and Gray constantly looked troubled when they were pressed. In fairness, both playing out of position and on their weaker side

Yeah, though, not so much at the back though for me - can forgive that - our CMs in the first half offered no out balls whatsoever - and you know, fair play to them for not just lumping it and guaranteeing giving up possession. In the second half though, going forward, he was just running down blind alleys for no reason

His play is reverting to the groups mean.

If 2-3 others made plays like the drive and exquisite cross, that fires the adrenals to supply energy for more of it. The utter lack of impetus the team provides just drains it in all of them.

Look at Porro, most goal involvements since arrival up to 3months ago, now a shell of that player, Udogie ditto. It’s the environment.

Hmmm, not sure I agree, actually. I see your point and perhaps admire his desire to just get it all done himself, but it is still counterproductive.

Last night, three times in the first 20minutes, Son had the ball where with coherent shielding he could have sprung us forward into a threatening position. Instead he turns the ball over meekly.

That’s 3x DJed has to spring out, then spring back, as a micro example. Draining the impetus hugely after long spells of attritional (attempted) defending.

For me it’s the training/conditioning which is most culpable, as we just appear drained as a unit. One or two (most games) have good spells, but now almost every game we gas out, meaning Spence (in this scenario) ends up trying to intricately build with almost impossible angles/weights of pass to hit.

Might seem strange, but throw ins are also getting me very disgruntled, we seem to never practice, as if you watch any other prem team they seem well capable of building from a throw, ours always take an age and there seems no patterns of muscle memory. Wonder if there are stats on throw in turnovers as I’ve never seen the amount from memory, Porro ceaselessly looks lost for an option on the right (no surprise really with Johnson and Son as the supportive recipients to those two, Kulu slightly better but only marginal).

Great big mess.

The way Son kept getting challenged and falling over early on made me think that there was something wrong with his boots

Powder puff doesn’t cover it!

Massive handicap playing left back too. Limits his game by 50%. He’s done well and there and got away with it but in tighter spaces vs a better team, it was rough
