He’s saying Spence had to be patient and earn it.
Spence did that and now we have a top FB on our books. Ange was also saying he doesn’t want him to settle for just this. Backed him for the England squad and more.
Ange gets alot of criticism for his tactics at times but his man management does seem pretty good.
This is literally the work of a manager to develop players
Whatever the case might have been with Spence earlier in the season, that's history, and we should be glad he's come on so strong in playing such an important role. What matters now is how Ange manages and juggles his full backs, as Spence has made a cogent case that he's our best and most versatile option at that position now.
Today is a really big test for Spence.

A bad game today doesn’t take away from the absolute FACT he’s been excellent for us this season. Has fully deserved his place.
