Player Djed Spence

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Djed visibibly frustrated througout the game and understandably so imo. Simons offered so little in possession. As a right footer playing LB you'd expect there to be options infield, and our midfield three were inept. None of them really want the ball, and whatever way this team sets up doesn't encourage the midfield players to take it. Spence has tried very hard the last few games, this is a frustrating team to play in, and we have no width on the left when Udogie isn't in the team.
Wouldn’t a right footed player on the left not want an option wide of him? Seems to me that the natural thing to do for a right footer would be to play to their left? So would need a touchline hugger ahead of them?

Or, am I just not getting what you are saying?

You can work on your weak foot.

Bale was so good he didn't need to and Berba is the laziest footballer in history.
Berba Lazy?

Or was it genius that allowed him to be in right place at the right time, so no need to run around like a blue arse fly.

He read the game so well, and when he needs to at the right time, would come to life and do genius stuff... Then melt away until required again.

Oh yeah man, it's everywhere. Friend of mine who's helping out at a solid Ligue 2 outfit invited me over the other day, got to attend a couple training sesh and the game. I was stunned by the lack of basic skills in some of them players, knowing it weren't just the young inexperienced ones...couple were over 30 and got many top division games under their belt. They can't head the ball, they got zero clue how to tackle properly, fuck me some can't even do more than 20 keepy uppies with their stronger peg.
The players are better athletes and run more undoubtedly. But I don’t think technical standards have improved much. If anything players are less technically skilled. The system and athleticism take priority.

Maradona, Rivelino, Hagi etc. lots of examples of extremely one footed great players. But usually left footed which is weird.

Lefties have something about them.

Is it the Devil?

:gallashmm:

no good satan GIF

Spence carries it infield most times he gets on the ball, first touch generally takes him infield, you need the infield option to be a threat to make the outside pass viable. Neto last night knew to press the pass to Simons because our midfielders don't offer for the ball with any porpose

Watching back I think Djed’s reaction to Frank was worse.

VDV just kept walking and didn’t appear to be talking back or gesticulating like Djed was.

Djed does worry me as he seems to have that Billy Big Bollocks attitude about him.
I think we know he’s a bit cocky and has ego. Which is fine when you’re delivering performances to back it up every week.

It can rub people up the wrong way when you don’t though.

Wont have long to wait to see if Frank gives him the bissouma treatment
I’m sure they’ll be some stern words said behind closed doors and what happens long term will probably depend on Spence’s future behaviour.

Listen to the manager, take your medicine and knuckle down, no problem. Act like you know best and ignore the manager and I’m sure he’ll be frozen out,

Its not just on the player, What are the acadmey coaches doing ? what are they paid for
many of our coaches at my grassroot club would spend time working on players weak, just simple passing but at least that player would'nt have to turn their body so the ball came onto the good foot
Absolutely. You watch our supposed next big hope 🤔 bergvall ,next time recievea the ball on his left, with his bac to opposition it's borderline fuckin embarrassing..at best it's certainly exploitable.

True story bout a young George Best who at age of 13 was all right foot.
Was told he had to start using his left foot more by his then coach.
He turned up for his next game with just his left boot on and a canvas shoe on his right…
Never used his right foot the whole game and scored 12 goals in the game…..

Lefthand side of the squad is squad is fucked.

Thank fuck Udogie is backed.
The Spence at lb experiment needs to be consigned to the bin ASAP, he can play there, but it should only be in a pinch, he is not a viable option to rotate with Udogie on the regular.

Even in matches where he doesn't put a foot wrong technically, him playing there absolutely kills our left flank. And even on the rare occasion where he does carry the ball on the outside, everyone knows a cross isn't coming. I don't care how weak his left foot may be, a shit cross is more dangerous than faffing about dummying and eventually just turning back and playing a safe pass back to the midfield.

A viable left back needs to be high on the shopping list for the next TW.

Love Spence, but I’ll never take any disrespect to a manager. I hope Thomas Frank benches him, because this is the first manager giving him an opportunity at Spurs, and this is how he repays him, because of a loss. Bench him.

Totally agree. He’s a brilliant 1v1 full back but a poor attacking one. That’s probably because he’s playing on the left but I still do t think even if he played on the right he’d off much in an attacking sense. Udogie hasn’t proved he can stay fit so a first choice left back is a must in January along with a left winger and centre forward. We have absolutely nothing on our left and it makes us so predictable and unbalanced.
