I'd get rid too. I'd rather have 11 Ben Davies's, boring as that might sound.

He's a great athlete and a great player on his day, but I don't know what it would take for him to have those days regularly. Seems like acting a dude or day dreaming or something gets in the way of playing football

I did laugh at his "just chillin" bespectacled interview with Rio tho. Was pure skit. The black Alan Partridge.

He's never been able to deliver a ball in the championship he shone because he was bigger and stronger and games are just more open in that league.

Don't think ive in 3 years seen him beat and man a whip a ball in like Porro. Good defender like I said though not many get the better of him in the last 1/3

The thing is, Ive seen him dribbling, he has excellent technique at times

And Ive seen him passing, he has some vision and ability to execute

And Ive even seen him put quality crosses in on his left foot

So, as with most things Spence, I believe he CAN do it, he just doesnt...

I 100% believe he has all the attributes to be a top 1% full back - he can do it all

However, I 99% believe he never will, because his head just isnt right for it.

I agree any decent coach could improve him, bring it out of him - but only if theyre able to get into his head first

And at this point far too many coaches have failed for me to think its a "them" thing more than its a "him" thing
 
Lol this thread is like two different players being analysed. He is Jekel and Hyde. Stand by what I have said since Conte he is the most talented fullback at the club. He has huge untapped potential could be truly elite...but you have to unlock it. I certainly wouldn't sell him under a proper tactical astute coach he is one of a handful worth his bullshit. The joke is if Conte wasn't such a willfull nutter he could have become his greatest achievement. He is perfect for him bizzare bloke.

Yeah completely agree. In terms of his raw ability he's really good - just needs to be more consistent and focused.

We'd be mad to sell him - having a guy this talented who is homegrown capable of covering at LB and RB shouldn't be taken for granted. The issue for me is mostly around coaching and motivation. Under the right manager he could be brilliant.

I've said it before, but the main issue I see with him is he also weirdly seems to look worse on the right. Pretty much all his best performances (both defensive and offensively) have come on the left, yet he has the issue of being right footed and narrowing the pitch. All the recent moaning about him is after he subbed on at RB and I don't think that's a coincidence.

I think its familiarity more than anything, its why I think he needs six months on the right I honestly think he'd go up another level. On the proviso he is coached And he respects the coach. Because clearly he also needs to be in the correct head space.

Yeah I hope so. I can see how he could be better defensively on the left as he can make tackles with his stronger right foot (I think this, combined with his pace, is why he's a 1v1 beast on the left) but there's no reason he should be worse going forward on the right. After all, that's where he made his name as a super-attacking wingback at Forest.

Djed is my favourite player in our current squad - not saying he's the best, he's my favourite...I've also saw him playing all the England friendlies he's played in the England Squad...cos i follow all the England games too...

He was really close to scoring once before in open play BUT he's a defender...

Thank Christ Ange Postecoglou integrated this guy back into the side. Has all the talent to be anything but even if he doesn't he's a perfectly serviceable squad player. His floor is high and we are yet to see his ceiling.

He needs actual starts there- and not just one. A run of starts. He needs to learn anew what a good delivery wide right can offer tactically, and also the value in taking a man wide to get to the end line where you can cross back across the box- it’s absolutely deadly and we never do any of it.

I think Djed can be better right than left- but he needs good coaching to help him recognize this potential sequence of play. WE need to be developing this ability to use this space as well, from both sides, if we are actually going to trouble sides that sit deep. They always want to show you inside to a crowded box.
