Player Dominic Solanke

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We didn't need Solanke.

And therin lies the problem.
What sort of idiot ( Ange ) pays £65m for a striker- because of his pressing?
Literally any player for 65 quid can press.

It's fucking obvious Solanke is mediocre at best. He can't do anything .
Not good at running with the ball.
Not a good passer
Not good at heading
Can't shoot from anywhere outside the penalty spot.

A striker who also gets assists - is the way to go and a much safer option

What other striker on the market should we have got at the time, and why?

I would have to research who was available.
But in principle..
A more agile front player. With some pace.
Pretty easy to get someone for a lot less.
Or two players.
We were never going to get a like-for-like replacement for Kane and didn't need to.

We used to do fine when Kane was injured.
Llorente and Vincious were good signings because they did not cost a lot. So came in as plan b squad players.

Solanke was a terrible signing because - we knew because of the fee he would be first pick for a long time. It panned out exactly as predicted.

I dare you to have a look on the market that Summer and come up with a better name than him who we could have signed.

Richy got the assist against Wolves.
It's not only that Solanke does not score - he does not get assists - and never has.

There is no forward in the PL - that he is better than,
He has a decent first touch and runs a lot.
So has/does Gallagher and get gets next level hate.
I never rated Lucas Moura. But I'd take his random chaosball over Solanke anonymity all day.

Yeah I think one of Ange's failings is who he wanted/accepted as signings. He had some quote early on along the lines of "there's not that much difference between players at the top level" and I think the past 2 seasons have proven that's abundantly false.

He also had quotes hyping up Dragusin and saying how he felt he had all the attributes he needed and would be a great signing, was our first choice target that window blah blah.

Not to say it's all Ange's fault ofc - he got screwed in his second summer when he wanted experienced pros like Neto, Gallagher and got 3 teenagers - but I think for a manager who made his name playing technical possession football with dribbly wingers he seemed weirdly comfortable just signing runners once he got to Spurs (Gallagher and Neto are basically runners too...). Or maybe he simply didn't have enough political capital to push back given it was such a big gig for him.

This is what happens when a manager from lower league football gets a job above his station.
I knew he was hurting us, but I didn't realise the damage would ripple on for so long.

Has to be the shittest dare ever.
Ivan Toney, Ollie Watkins, the fella Bournemouth replaced him with, Nicolas Jackson, Serhou Guirassy, probably Oshimen, etc, etc, etc.

Loads of players around the league and other leagues could have come, probably for less, and been better.

That said, they could also have missed the 48 games that Solanke has missed to date due to a negligent coach and medical staff

I'll hold my hands up on this one BTW.
I wanted him. Before we even showed an interest it was one I favoured. He looked good at Bournemouth.
Maybe it's coaching. Maybe it's confidence. Maybe it was a fluke season.
But in almost 2 seasons I've not seen a performance close to what he did at Bournemouth

I don’t mind him as even wehn not scoring, he works hard and keeps the ball. If we had two goal scorers wide or at 10, he would be an effective foil but we don’t

You could have 100% have got Guirassy from Dortmund for the money we spent they would gift wrap him and carry him over on a sedan on their shoulders. Jackson too. And both are much much better than Solanke.

In his defense I would say he doesn’t actually miss sitters .
He gets next to zero service
The fact he needs the ball served up like Romano before tapping in is a problem for me. People call Haaland a lazy poacher, but even he can do half the job himself.

But we don't. And because we don't we should be looking at a system that does create goal scoring opportunities.
For me, the best be we have, is players getting in to the box and making defenders lives hard. Richarlison is good at that. Gallagher is good at that. Sarr can be quite a nuisance. Palhinha has outscored everyone doing this on a minutes per goal basis whilst also being the leagues top tackler.
