The worse season I have witnessed for many a year was under AVB. We were awful and I almost dreaded going to games.
His high line defending was so wrong.. We were getting walloped for 5 and 6 and it was horrible football..

AVB has been sacked twice for failing, that is for a reason.

It is being rumoured that AVB is on a shortlist to replace Martinez if he is to go.

Can you please let me know your thoughts on him. and whether he will suit our players? his style? his approach to young players? his transfer market dealings (touchy subject, i know)
Pretty sure I read a piece not more than a couple of months ago where AVB just flatly stated that he wasn't interested in returning to England.

Best chance of that is if Leicester get a sudden case of Swine flu, get it? cause theyre pigs.
More a case of actually turning up & wanting to entertain the fans rather than this reacharound of everyone wanting LCFC & their fairytale... This is football not the Princess Diaries. Whether or not they've won the title by then, I just hope your team turn up wanting to give them a game rather than with a good book & a bottle of ambre solaire. West Ham (yes, those cunts) actually gave it a go, so I'm baffled why everyone else (& their fans) seem happy to get a bumming these days...just give the cunts a game they won't forget. Your team & your fans owe it to each other & to the integrity of the league.

And yes, I'm a bitter bastard.

I couldn't give two shits about Leicester and their fairytale, i wanna batter them but we won't.

They can win before they even play us. even though we play right into their hands. we play high up the pitch and play everything theyre not. they will beat us heavily through counter attacking

Hey Guys,

Everton fan in peace. If mods feel this is better placed elsewhere then feel free to remove and move.

First of all, Well done this season. I personally wanted you to win the title and thought you were more then value for that. You just came unstuck where leicester are getting that infamous Man U luck. (I know it is still possible and I hope we do you a favour week Sat, but fact is we are not very good)

I have come on to this forum to ask your opinion on a previous manager.

Thanks lads, ill be happy to answer any Q on EFC related if you have any
Very good choice - take him

He made me hate watching Tottenham play football and I can't forgive him for that. I've never felt more disconnected with the club.

Yeh it made going to the lane a chore like washing the dishes. Remember EL games at night where I was starring up at the night sky, turned round and everyone else was as well.

Other than the a guarantee of a league title would I ever put up with another season like that.

Whats the difference between Dubai and Abu dhabi?

Dubai don't watch the flinstones

but Abu Dhabi do
:dawsonlol:

I see Everton as a squad with MASSIVE potential. Martinez managed to move the club backwards. You have a plethora of young talented players just waiting to be properly managed. I would say you need someone like a Pochettino to get the best out of your kids.

Also like someone said earlier, he has a game plan and he sticks with it. He played the high defensive line with us which he thought he could get away with because he have a stellar sweeper keeper in Lloris, the only problem is our defense was atrocious and we would get overran constantly hence the 0-5, 0-6 scorelines. With Poch we play a high line but we actually have a game plan with it.

AVB played a high line with no press. Lofted diagonal balls killed us.

AVB - where to start?

Tactically bonkers. Played the high line at Chavski, with an ageing and not quick Terry (rinse mouth out with soap and puke). I think thats the only time since the ark that they lost to the Arse (3-5 at home, absolute battering).

Team selection. Season 1, the team selected itself. Season 2, awful. If no badges Timmy could replace him and instantly turn things around by picking people on form rather than on whether they wear a beeney to training, that's all you need to know. BTW he was given a bit of a hint by Levy on that one, along the lines of "we're not scoring very many goals at all, do you want to reconsider your decision not to select our favourite mercenary rather than having him warm the sofa at home for £100k a week?"

Man management. for evidence, Chavs and Spurs. 2 clubs with a good squad at the time. See above, "beeney".

Inflexible. My way or no way. No flexibility of tactics. No Plan B. So.....

...if things go pear-shaped, he can't turn it around. And they will go pear shaped at some stage, they always do. AVB will turn that into a crisis.

Boredom. In his final part-season, there were only 2 games that I would in hindsight have paid money to go to (Chavs 1-1, Manure 2-2). Actually, I wouldn't have watched the others for free.

Pressure. He can't handle it. Telling the press that the fans should sing more at WHL was just an embarrassment. No inkling that fans tend not to sing at events like paint drying, grass growing etc. By the time he walked away, he looked like death. (and we did sing btw).

He got one thing right I thought. He didn't throw Lloris straight into the first team. People thought it barking, but it meant that his first exposure to the brawl that is the PL wasnt with a team that was 1/3rd new and with no experience of the PL themselves. He eased him in, which I think gave him a bit of protection initially. If he'd made a ricket in the first game (like Thorsvedt did), then the press would have scented blood.

Nice guy I'm sure. And I loved the way he celebrated goals. But managing a PL footie club requires more than that.

Avoid.

Oh, forgot to add:

imo the 2 potentially best managers in the UK are Eddie Howe at Cherries and Mark Warburton at Rangers.

Howe and his family didn't settle at Burnley, so unlikely to go to EFC. Also, I think he'll honour his contract.

Warburton has only just started on his Rangers project. To come out of that club really smelling of roses he's have to manage a couple of seasons in the SPL and show progress v Celtic and in Europe. As Tomo said earlier, we can see him at Spurs in the future. Enfield boy, Spurs fan, same style as Poch, gives youth a chance. Possibly even better man manager.

My question for EFC, if you get rid of Martinez, who would you get? I'd stick with him on condition that he employs a defensive coach. Monkey head, ex-EFC.

good luck at beating the other lot.

Decent man on a personal level, but he spent 1.5 years here and never signed one decent defensive minded player. We were utterly boring under him aswell. Oh and when things started to fall apart we were massacred 5-0 at home by Liverpool and 6-0 away to City.

Don't do it
I just don't think the Premier league or the British press are for him,(I think he possibly do ok in Scotland though).
You need an a strict manager, but one that makes players feel wanted.
I can't think of one off hand, because any that could do that would be too negative on the pitch for Everton.
You lot(like us) have grown up watching the game played on the ground and not route 1.
Glad you like Lennon.i always liked him down here.....though his crosses will sometimes putting your head in your hands :)
Welcome to the site,bytheway

AVB is better than Martinez. Let's just get that out the way. But he is flawed. He doesn't cope well with people when they arent saying somethign nice about him and that always happens because his football is too rigid. At every club you have to eject the trouble makers you inherit but he doesn't handle this the best way. He is likeable, and most people want him to do well, players and fans but he becomes frustrating not fixing problems and trying the same failed thing against and again. A lot of managers do this, the majority. Unless he has learnt and got better I would leave him alone, but the problem is that getting a decent manager is very very hard. There are so many dud managers like AVB. If you sign AVB there will be a point where you think, Oh wow, we are onto somethign here. And then later you will realise it was a false dawn and that he is boring you to tears. You will hate watching your team play. worse of all some fans will still be where you were before, thinking he is brilliant and you wont be able to get through to them and so it will take longer then it should for fans to turn on him and get him the fuck out.
Good luck. Don't do a Villa. You ahve some good players one or two who you will maybe lose in the summer but you have enough to stay good and build something better for th efuture. Everton are one of the only clubs I like as the fans are genuine.
