I was all for giving LC a go after the job he did for the under 21. But ideally you need someone that can deal with big players, players with egos. I think a Tuchel or even a Mourinho would get so much more out of this group of players. You need a manager big enough to bench big players if need be, like Foden or Rice.

On a sidenote, McAtee just scored his second for the under 21's against Ukraine. This could be a break out year for him as he's been getting some minutes for City.

Always mental when people compare players from the modern era to those from light years ago. No doubt he was a brilliant player but it was almost a different game. Also, how good was he and what was he doing in his career when he was the same age as what Palmer is currently?

It's rumoured that a young Maradona modelled his game on wee Archie after watching him in Argentina 78 World Cup*

Not far off Palmer's age Gemmill was winning the league with Derby. He went on to win it again with Derby and once more with Forest, then won a European Cup (before it was the CL).

There is a tenuous possibility that this isn't true

Fair enough. It was before my time, I'd ask my old man about him if he was still here. But still, it's hard to compare someone from the modern game to a player from not too far off 50 years ago. The tactics, formations and tempo of games were completely different.

Much as I think he would be a poor fit at Spurs I can’t argue this is a far superior manager tactically to what England have had.

He impressed me the way he dealt with the media when the gangster got sanctioned.

He is about as an attacking coach as Southgate though, I kind of don’t mind that because that’s what International Tournament football is, boring (I love the tournament but have the football) but those that have been slating Southgate for his style of football then be prepared or be pissed off. Tuchel is a good tactician which I think is a very important factor in tournament football, where the coaches don’t get to spend enough time with the squad to coach a style of play everyone craves.

A German managing the English national side 🤮🤮🤮. National anthems will be fun if we get them in a major tournament.

If he actually won us something I don't think anyone would care less where he's from. I think his style of management is made for International football. He wouldn't be with the players enough to fall out with them as he did with certain players at Chelsea and then Bayern.

The thing is, I don't think Southgate intended to be a bus park coach, it's just what happens when you can't coach, or come up against coaches who actually can.

I suppose if you win things, people won’t complain too much about a ‘negative’ or ‘boring’ style. However, if you play that way and nothing comes of it, then there’s no incentive to get behind it.

I’m not the biggest fan of Tuchel, but he has got experience of winning things, particularly in tournament football. Southgate, hasn’t

The advantage Tuchel brings is he can coach how to attack even if he is primarily a defence first coach. Southgate could never coach anything beyond hoofing the ball which worked with Rashford and Sterling but doesn’t with Saka and Foden.
