I do agree that the state the of the club at this current time is not good. But the state of the club one year ago was pretty good when we were pipping Woolwich to the champions league going into the following the season with really good momentum.
I'm not keen on the current other options for buyers, I don't want a state or American like Todd Boely for example who don't have a clue how to run a football club. But that seems to be an opinion that no one agrees even though there are threads on this forum criticising those ownerships.
I'll be the first to admit that this current board have made mistakes, however unlike some on this particular thread I refuse to blame everything single possible failure on them when I believe our lack of trophies is down to a COLLECTIVE failure which the previous players and managers have to take responsibility for aswell.
This season is going to be a disappointment but we're on course to finish 7th.
Not 19th
Not 18th
Not 14th.
- Sounds exactly like Levy then, the difference tho is that Boehly splashes a shitload of money, Levy doesn't!
A club that wants to be successful, and compete for trophies must work on so many levels, we haven't for a long long time.
Below i'm gonna list 4 points in order of importance, for a club to succeed.
1. You need a good chairman and board that makes the club work properly from a economical point of view. You can of course debate this. But i think we actually are a well run club economically.
2. And this is the most important point from a football perspective. You need a really good DOF! The DOF sets the path of what way the club are going in. He sets the scouting department, he sets what brand of football the club wants to play, he hires a Manager that will fit with how we wants to play, and he sets out what kind of players we sign to fit the system. This is the most important person at a club from a footballing perspective.
3. A Manager! You of course need a good manager to be successful. But first and foremost you need a Manager that fits the way the club wants to play.
4. Players! Of course you need good players(and the gods know we don't have an abundance of those) to be successful. But the most important thing is that they fit the system. You don't need the flashiest or most expensive players, if you have a system that works.
For all the 4 points above to work, it's a must that point 1 works! The club is very well run economically. And we should have a big advantage in the years to come, when the much stricter FFP rules kicks in!
BUT the decisions from Levy and the board on footballing matters has been nothing but catastrophical the last 5 years, and led us to this mess.
The point i'm trying to make is that everything in a club's culture stems from the top.
I don't have a problem with Levy running the club from an economical point of view, as a chairman should.
But he should have no say whatsoever when it comes to the footballing side, NONE! And that's the problem, he can't keep his nose out of ANYTHING at the club, he's a control freak!
And now this control freak who knows nothing about football, is the man who needs to make the most important footballing decision this club has faced in at least 15 years!
We're in a right mess right now. And if Levy doesn't get this decision right we could be Leicester.
I can't really point out how important it is that we get this new DOF appointment right!! It's a make or break situation for the club really.
And i hate to break it to you, we won't finish 7th! We will finish 8th at best.
