Not defending it at all but it’s a likely a way to push people into season tickets packages, and they frankly aren’t as worried about the odd traveling fan being impacted. If someone looks at the difference between going to 2-3 games versus a season ticket, the latter becomes a much larger value and the club just increased their revenue from that individual. Especially considering it likely means more more money also spent on concessions and other commercial activities so their total it’s an even bigger win. Plus, individual game tickets are likely inherently more costly to manage for the club.
