I wouldn't give Chelsea too much credit for the Hazard sale. They wanted him to stay but he was refusing contract offers and only had a year left, so they had to cash in. It wasn't like Kane where we had 3 years to work with, Hazard forced their hand.

The season before he left he was great (16 goals 15 assists) and nobody would have predicted the decline at all, including anyone at Chelsea. It just happens in football and unfortunately for Madrid he lost his edge, became unfit and by the time he did much about it he appears to be unable to get back to what he was.
They still got a huge amount for someone in his last year of his contract.

1/3 in to the window and….nothing.
There are clearly deals to be done out there.
By all accounts we keep offering Ndombele and Lo Celso in swap offers. Who on earth would take these two. Crazy.
This will be the same as always. Failure at board level to back the manager and invest.

So.......

Everyone keeps banging on about our poor quality squad and how we are falling behind.

Leicesters great scouting. Why didn’t we get Tielamens ?

Woolwich building a great young squad. Why didn’t we get Tomiyasu?

Man United full of galatico’s. Why didn’t we get Fernandes?

West Ham a well oiled team. We need an ‘Antonio’ up front.

Yet here we are, above United and Leicester in the league; with 2 games in hand over Spammers/Woolwich and in the semi final of the League Cup.

Funny old world.

Maybe we’re not that bad after all.

And your point is?

That the world isn't caving in and we aren't as bad as everyone seems to think. We are outperforming Woolwich, Leicester, West Ham, Man United - and we now have a coach who is the envy of everyone around us.

All that with a team that is under-performing. Imagine if Son / Kane find their form and we finally get a play maker?

Sure, we are a long way from competing with City, Chelsea and Liverpool - but let's see how many points Liverpool drop without Mane/Salah

There's practically no league games this month mate, so I doubt it'll affect Liverpool that much.

4th is our ceiling. That means there are three teams that are way better than us and we are competing with the rest to hit that. It's doable and in our hands still. It's not as bad as it seemed in September. But it's still the same players and we need significant investment. We are carried by our best players; all of them getting to 30 very soon. What's the plan?

Youre absolutely correct however it is also worth bearing in mind that we won our first 3 or 4 games 1 nil under Nuno, with him bagging manager of the month (feels an age ago, doesn't it?!).
All those results were somewhat lucky...City was a freak result and Wolves battered us but we squeaked it.
Yes, we are doing fine in the table, but look at the performances themselves and it paints a rather different picture

The tipping point of the season will be failing to turn up against the Chavs and even worse if we lose to the Goons. If that happens it’ll turn toxic with no more excuses. Sell a stake, find outside investment, finally sell the naming rights FFS.

The stadium has a significant effect on our ability to financially compete in the transfer market.

That effect is to dramatically increase and strengthen that ability.

We are a much richer club than the one that left WHL.
Fn what we have a a near 1bn debt! You realise that yeah. You understand that based on the massive debt, we can't actually fn spend large amounts - ie that's why we hardly spend a fn thing in the last 5 years compared to the rest of the top 10.

If your saying that the club will generate more revenue fine, just don't fn forget to mention the vastly increased costs which places the club at a higher level of risk. Or are you an ebita man.....

Multiple missed opportunities to fill the final gap between 'good team' and 'trophy winning team' is what irritates people.

Our goal in the Premier league isn't just to finish above West Ham, Leicester, and Man Utd

So all this talk about the new stadium allowing us to compete with the elite was just that. Talk? Bullshit?
And we need to remain patient until the debt is repaid in 2050?

Sounds reasonable

The incremental added revenue of the new stadium massively outweighs the financing cost of the debt. So every month, every year, we come out ahead on net by a large, large amount.

Now, if there’s no fans allowed we’re dicked, but thankfully that seems to have passed for good.
