Just as long as he keeps overseeing 'our' new Sainsbury's

Is he a fully fledged midget? Ledley is what 6ft1? Pinhead must only be about 5ft0?
Not to mention that's a regular pair of scissors!!

You just have to look at the end of the 80s to see how the landscape has changed.

Who were the accepted Big 5 in 1989?

And who would you say the Big 5 are today?
The two title challengers in 88/89 were Liverpool and Woolwich with Mickey Thomas securing a dramatic 2-0 win at Anfield that won the gooners the league on goal difference. Woolwich were the plucky underdog then just like they were in the season gone but in 88/89 they actually won the league instead of bottling at the final hurdle. So not a lot of change there.

We were big spenders in the summer of 88 with a then unprecedented £3.5m spent on Paul Stewart and Paul Gascoigne but we underperformed due to a poor start and a crap defence and finished 6th and went out of the cups in the early stages. Not a lot of change there.

I don't think there was a "Big 5" in those days but there were a few teams that "might do something" but they could just as easily finish mid-table and be out-performed by teams like Norwich or Coventry. Nottingham Forest, Everton and Manchester United are the teams I would put in that category along with Woolwich and ourselves. Liverpool were the Man City of the day. Chelsea, Man City and West Ham were nowhere.

I would say there was more room for an upset in 88/89 because there were more teams that "might do something" than teams more or less "nailed on to do something".

The accepted big 5 as far as the media were concerned were Liverpool, United, Woolwich, Spurs and Everton. It’s what led to the formation of the EPL

And it’s strange how the years warp our opinions of the Past. Rose tinted glasses I guess.

As between those 5 clubs of the available 10 league wins between 1980 and 1989 they hoovered up 9 of them. If you go 81-90 then it’s all 10.
FA Cup wins = 7 out of 10.
League Cup = 9 out of 10.

Liverpool on the 80s were as dominant as City are over the last ten years.

Chavs getting bailed out of their FFP hole by the Saudís..

Luck?

Or the flipside of buying expensive top class players at market rates ?

Why aren’t the Saudis taking our unwanted players?

Now this I really really like . People in the transfer thread getting pissed off with it being spammed with ENIC out posts . So you catch them with a sneaky punch to the back of the head by putting transfers in the LEVY / ENIC thread .

Love it
