Yeah, don't think this is what they are doing...or better yet, the same incentive as LIV is not at play...and you can't just pick off a few morally flexible hypocrits like you can with golf...and I'm not sure Messi has tens of millions of Euros of gambling debts like Mickelson.
During the last WC it was speculated that SA wanted the 2030 WC. As such, FIFA's thing has always been the country have a creditable league in order to host the WC. Just look at Russia's ramping up of spending before they were awarded 2018 and what happened to that league afterward. It was also a stipulation for the US to get 1994 and so we have MLS.
So it seems SA is cutting to the chase in order to expedite their bid...but it also suggests that it's not a good faith effort to grow a proper league for the long term. Already there is criticism from Ceferin about the efforts while equating them with China's doomed world football takeover.
