ENIC In or ENIC Out

I haven't seen any prices quoted, bar maybe Sanchez (£9m) 🤷🤷🤷🤷

It wouldn't surprise me if a lot are loaned out for another year to save on wages, or one or two released once the window 8s closed.
No-one knows but we know how Levy rolls. Holds out for every last penny and takes it down to the wire. It’s flawed and if Ange concludes the tour and says x, y and z aren’t needed, I hope we act quickly

Levy rolls the same as any CEO.
Tries to get the best deal, both buying and selling.

He has released 3 players in recent years though.

I can still counter that - that money was wholly generated by us, the club with zero investment from ENIC. They’ve largely wasted it and spent badly due to poor exec team and strategy, and there is a prior context whereby for the prior five years we spent f all so this spend hasn’t touched the sides. There’s also indirect spend that’s relevant eg wages, agents and I suspect a lot of the spend in the chart is based on total deal sizes with add ons (that are never added on).

the chart proves little, certainly doesn’t show ENIC / Levy are doing a good job from a football perspective. It does show the commercial revenue increases they overseen are yielding great top line and position us well so kudos for that

That's not actually a counter to the Levy need to spend argument which I should have made clear tbf

I remember when we started flying under Poch most fans were happy we were doing things 'the right way', competing with the big boys and living within our means.

Yup the ENIC out narrative is largely based on the angt of the last 4-5 years or so, fans will get behind something if they feel apart of something in which the club direction is going places.

I don’t think many people still hold that simplistic ‘need to spend’ view though…. So your point is irrelevant. You are talking to no-one

lol You need to open your eyes, that narrative is still being pushed by our fans.

We literally have this debate all the time on here - I've lost count the amount of times stevee stevee has to post that spending chart when someone brings it up.

Possibly - we were a bigger draw in 2016-2018 though. I don’t think it would have been any worse, new players coming into a positive, stable environment and a world class 11

We weren't paying wages like we were now, that's the reason we missed out on players like Mane and Wijnaldum. So we would have had to found gems like Leicester did when they signed Kante/Mahrez or we would have had to go out and speculate and in that time our scouting wasn't very good so it's doubtful we would have spent it wisely.

Ok youve changed my mind. Not buying anyone whatsoever was definitely the optimal strategy in hindsight. You can’t hear a word against your Napoleon leader can you?

Levy blah blah blah 😡😠

Cat Working GIF

I’m going to buy a cat, just so it can do that any time Levy does anything.

Levy sanctions the purchase of Van der Ven… sfftjngfiogfhiuogvghkkonhbjh🤔👎🏻👏🏻!

Whilst our NET spend since the new stadium opened is impressive, our identification of targets, negotiations, have not. And our ability to offload players is terrible. We have 14-15 players to offload this summer just to get down to a squad of 22 (any bigger is pointless as we're not in Europe). Now the returning loanees are actually looking good Ange and Levy have some difficult decisions to make. For example, would Ley offload Skipp for £15M to reduce squad size? Will he cancel Dier's contract to get him out this year instead of next? Will he accept a £15M fee for Højbjerg from Atletico Madrid (which gets our money back) even though he is clearly worth more now?

This is a topic of some controversy in the US which has similar rules on new construction, but my understanding was this wasn't required in Europe, or basically anywhere else.

Is this a new thing?

The argument, which I find pretty convincing, is that a two-stair rule badly limits the flexibility and financial viability of building new housing in exchange for very little fire safety benefit.

Sorry to hijack but I'm just curious.

Spend/Net spend as always only tells a part of the picture. Wages are the missing part. Also, payment agreements.
We probably pay over the entire contract of the player. Arse just agreed to pay Spam £100m over 2 years.
So add how you pay to how much you pay and how big your wages are to the equation and that is why we're behind.
