He’s not a player that excites me tbh.

If we are saying that 250k pw wages are the jump this club might need to take to attract an elite level option, I’d PERSONALLY find it underwhelming if it was for Raphinha.

I could be wrong (not like I haven’t been before) and he transforms us. I’d be genuinely excited if we did that for Xavi Simons (plays a different role/position really) or maybe even Olise (his injuries worry me though). Tbh there are a lot of players that would excite me personally more than Raphinha.

Perhaps the profits from all the external structure eh karting, hotels etc will provide financing for team improvement, in order to compete with the Chelsea’s and Man Citys. With FFP being more enforced our income would enable better transfers in whereas the ‘ pocket money’ clubs would have to be very careful with what they spend.

It's a rock and a hard place isn't it, attracting top players when, the club won't pay the big buck's and, wins fuck all into the bargain.
We tend to attract those who, want to take the leap to a top six premier league club, then do well enough to get, hopefully a move to a club that is in contention for the medals.
If levy was paid on sporting performance related salary, then the cunt would be needing some overdraft on his account and a understanding bank manager.

Why would wanting us to target top players that demand top wages = signing shit and overpaying bench scrubs?

Are you saying that top wages guarantees we end up with rubbish like Ramsdale on 120k or old donkeys like Casemiro and Varane on 350k?

I know what I'd like is to see us compete for Nico Williams on 300kpw or Xavi Simons on 250k...

Posters comparing our wage bill to other teams without drilling down into what their huge numbers are actually getting them creates a false reality.

We should be playing players competitive wages but my point is comparing ours to other teams is not relevant once you get into the weeds of what they are actually paying for.

but it doesn't change the fact that the time has come for this club to step outside it's wage bill comfort zone to attract better players if they ask for better wages.

170000 on maddison
165000 on romero and werner

Shows we are willing to push the boat out to some extent.

Hopefully we are comfortable with paying those numbers and more on a couple more top quality signings.

We need to be willing to touch the 250,000 range to get the high level talent that also has the type of consistency and discipline we need.

Make no mistakes, teams will start offering the likes of Romero, VDV, and Udogie that kind of money soon. Sarr won't be far behind either.

We reward our best players. Levy is always prepared to throw money at an asset.

The problem we have is that our rivals are prepared to throw more money at *potential* assets.

Agree to some extent.

But you have just named 3 players we are currently paying 50-70k a week for.

Yes we have to be willing to stretch to something close to that number but it doesn't mean we have to buy players and pay that level of wages straight off the bat.

Currently, players know they can earn close to 200,000k a week for us if they prove themselves. We really aren't being the paupers some are making out.
