It's not wrong though. The majority of the club's revenue is produced by cultural relevance and not merchandising. So everything you do to make them culturally relevant ends up contributing revenue, even if it's not from your pocket. So they're still getting a penny from you, or, at least, because of you.

You can say you're not going to spend any of your own money on Spurs until Levy goes - good - but to say you're not contributing is a misnomer so long as you still actively engage with/follow the club.

There's precious little anyone can do to dislodge ENIC, in truth, but complaining on the internet isn't going to do it at all. And solitary refusals to spend money won't do it, either.

Start/join an actual protest and boycott movement. Unfollow accounts, stop watching matches, protest outside the stadium. Set the Sainsburys on fire whilst wearing an Archway Sheet Metal Works shirt.

Being realistic, the only thing that will prompt an ENIC exit is belief that the club's value is at, near, or past it's peak.

This requires the prospect of the ESL to be fully dead (not even close, currently), projections for future global broadcasting rights revenue to shrink (haven't heard any suggestions of such), and/or the idea that the club has gone as far as they can take it as a brand is on the precipice of an Evertonian fall from grace (despite all the "sky is falling" talk, there's no reason to believe this at the moment).

EDIT: the biggest thing that will send them packing is the prospect of the ESL being very much in the frame but a concrete, but clandestine, knowledge that Spurs are very much out of the frame. This would mean the club's value has peaked and once word gets out it will become an unattractive purchase.

As long as there's still growth ahead, financially, they're not going anywhere. Which is why my position is "why waste your energy". Even jeering Levy in the stadium will do fuck all, he'll go home, roll in a pile of £50 notes and have a good laugh.

I don't think the football side of things is all that important. ENIC have positioned themselves in such a way that they will profit from concerts, hotels, supermarkets, climbing walls etc.

Spurs merely allowed them to get to that point and they'll ring fence football-generated funds for wages and transfers to keep the natives distracted.

This is a ludicrously bad take that a lot of supporters have.

If the football wasn't central to the entire project, rich developers would be putting up £1B "entertainment venues" all over town. They don't/haven't.

The hotels, supermarkets, go karts, etc. are a way to leverage the attraction of the football club to produce additional off-pitch revenue. But everything flows from the football club. It's just a collassal misunderstanding of finance, investment, and land development to think any other way. Without THFC, no one is taking a train 30-60 minutes across London to land in fucking Tottenham to race go karts, climb a wall, and bed down for the night.

ENIC's payout is if/when they sell the club. Until then, Lewis and Levy will continue to dine out on the credit supplied by the massive equity they have in the club. And they will no doubt keep ownership of the other surrounding developments, so long as they prove profitable ventures - otherwise they'll dump them in the sale as well.

The point being that as long as the team coasts along and gets good crowds there really isn't an incentive to do better.

More successful the club is, the more revenue they produce. The idea that there's no incentive to win is another common errant take.

ENIC is just a risk averse ownership group. It's entirely plausible Levy gets undue grief for this because he doesn't have a sufficient ownership stake to control those investment risk parameters. Also plausible he sets them. We don't know.

But I lean towards it being more on Lewis and less on Levy because it's not very plausible someone could work every week for 25 years for a football club and not want to see that translate on the pitch. To Lewis it's just an investment in the portfolio.

Anyway, that's neither here nor there. Getting back to their risk averse nature, that's a legitimate gripe - to succeed in football they need to be more tolerant of risk in general, and more willing to increase that risk selectively to seize on opportunity.

This is something they have historically failed to do, and when they have they've been burned (Rebrov, Bent, Lamela+Soldado, Sanchez, Dembele, Richarlison) which has provided negative reinforcement for such actions.

The fact is that every single time Spurs have broken their transfer record under ENIC they've gotten disappointing returns. When you put it in that context, it's easy to see why they've been hesitant to spend large.

But 9 of the club's 15 most expensive signings have come in the past 3 summers. That's significant progress on the investment front.
