If they hadn’t been sold to those clubs, they’d have been sold to other clubs. They wanted to leave.

Huh? Liverpool have kept their best core players, that’s why they’ve won stuff ffs. Salah, VVD, Alisson, Trent, Robertson. Their spine has been kept. We sell VVd. We sell Salah.

They sold who, Mane? That’s pretty much it. When they were actually a selling club (Suarez, Torres etc) they didn’t win shit all.
They sold Torres, Suarez, and Coutinho. We sold Bale and Modric because Madrid offered giant fees and Madrid gets the players they want. We sold Kane, finally, but we told City to fuck off and him to suck it up. Same with Modric and Chelsea.

Like I said, the statement was a mischaracterization. United sold fucking Beckham and Ronaldo to Madrid. Some facts of football are immutable.

What were the odds on all those games?

You're using the term underdog as if we were a championship team.

My guess is that the odds were marginal and as proved by results against each of those sides and also how close to where we finished to them in the league we were good enough to beat them.

The difference on the days was down to how our very very capable teams performed.
Yeah underdogs is probably the wrong term but we weren’t favourites, bar Pompey. We had a good 11 but that wasn’t enough, an injury or two and the cheap, frugal shitshow unravelled at the pointy end of the season

F these bastards, hate them.

Torres was when they were a selling club and not winning anything. Suarez as well, nobody is praising Liverpool for their strategy at this time.

Coutinho they held on for an absolutely insane fee (proportionally way more insane than what we got for Modric, Bale or Kane) and then they spent huge wages + broke records for two of the best in their positions. Whilst going for one of the highest profile coaches in the world in his prime.

Beckham was sold because Fergie didn’t want him and Ronaldo yes, that was a classic example of shit, unambitious owners with the way he was replaced. They survived it because Fergie.

The problem with ENIC is, and always has been, that they don't have the ambition or the drive needed to win where it matters to most fans....on the pitch.

Their aim is self stated. To grow a global, multi sports and entertainment business, with NFL at it's heart, and Tottenham Hotspur is the vehicle used to achieve those aims.

Despite the extra revenue from the stadium and consolidating our position in the top 10 wealthiest clubs on the planet, we still don't compete for the best players and continue to look for value over quality. Have a risk averse strategy, and have essentially become the world's richest losers.

Even praising ENIC for the infrastructure is tainted. Flawed.
They didn't pay for it...The fans are paying for it.....But it's ENIC who are downright benefiting from it.

Leeches. Parasites. Spivs with no genuine interest in football other than the money it generates and the diversifying opportunities it presents.

Same points being made in this thread time and time again, pointless even moaning about them, they're going nowhere.

Time to just accept it, gey behind the project and stop trying to be permanently miserable, life is too short.

Bale & Modric were when we were a selling club. We haven't been for a while.

It’s not far wrong. Any time we develop a genuinely Elite player (not just someone the fans think is elite because he strung together 4 good games) that player leaves to go win stuff and get paid fairly.
The only world class players that we have developed in my lifetime are Hoddle, Kane and King. Whilst Hoddle and Kane did both leave, both were approaching the twilight of their careers on departure, and between them have won one Ligue-1 title post-Spurs.

Unless you are including Modric, Bale, Berbatov etc. in your list, and that was when we were truly a stepping stone club with only 25% of the revenue of clubs like Man U.

Walker, Eriksen, Kane, literally three of our best players in recent years and all left when we wanted to keep them.

Walker was a while back now and he was agitating for a move. We also hung on to Kane and Eriksen much, much longer than what a 'selling' club would do and that we did in the Modric, Bale, Berbatov etc situations.

Fans were literally complaining that we didn't sell Eriksen sooner at the time of his sale.

If you can't see the difference I can't help you.

The difference in the past was that Cup matches were prioritised over the league and not the other way around. In 91 Gaza was carrying an injury and missed many league matches but was always fit for the FACup and got us to the final. That would not happen today. He would play in the league and not the cup.
Mourinho said that there was no bonus clause in his contract for winning a cup. Presumably the players are the same.
Now we have beaten the teams in the Europa league with weakened teams but if play the same team against better opposition then we will be sending out the message to the players that it is not important.
It is not only the big semi’s and finals that we have lost but the times we did not get there because we lost to lower division teams playing a weakened team.
Our priorities need to change if we want to win a trophy.
Now I want to beat Palace but not as much as I want to beat MCity but which match will Ange prioritise.

Without exception every PL team plays a weakened side against lower opposition in the cups.

I think if we rotated in the league ahead of/after cup games and it led to dropped points and then missing CL/EL football supporters would be calling for the managers head come the end of the season unless there was a cup to show for it - even with a cup here and there memories would be short if league performance dipped, so I have sympathy for those trying to balance it all. The key is obviously to have a deep squad with quality in depth so you can rotate and not suffer - I think that's what we are moving towards

8/9 changes is more than a weakened side. 2/4 changes is much more acceptable. Only the top 2/3 teams challenging for the PL tend to make wholesale changes the others are more sensible.
The thing is no one criticises us for not qualifying for the CL but for the lack of a trophy. Kane and other players talk about wanting to win a trophy. Before we qualified for CL I wanted to do so but we have now played in the CL several times it is not so much a priority. Had we qualified for the CL this season we would not be making such wholesale changes for CL matches or we would face being heavily beaten.

The way ahead is to make regular rotation of players but no more than 2/4 players including some PL matches. We should not need the first 11 to beat teams at the bottom of the league. Full strength against Woolwich etc but Palace? Udogie played 90 mins on Thursday and assuming Spence not fit will need to play against MC & Villa. Therefore rest him. If we cannot beat Palace without him then we are not getting top 4.

I agree the way forward is to have a deep squad but even MC have players that will always play their big matches but not necessarily against Palace.

We really need to get a trophy and better in the year of no CL than if we qualify for that tournament.

I'm not asking for your help. If you think these are happy days supporting Spurs then good for you.

My Brother in law is a Geordie.

He tells me they had one or two people just like you prominent in the Mike Ashley thread on the Toon forum who dug their heels in right up to the day he sold up.

Just sayin' 🤷‍♂️
