I took the liberty of copying this from another Spurs forum and thought I'd share it here because it's so relevant and so spot on

you translate what Levy says into what he actually means you'll understand it.

Levy: We cannot spend what we do not have, and we will not compromise the financial stability of this club – indeed, our off-pitch revenues have significantly supplemented the lower football revenues this year, testament to our diversified income strategy

I run this company as financially efficient as is possible because why risk the shareholders stake? The fact I have diversified what this club is, means regardless of the outcome on the pitch I'm still going to be rolling in it, so risking that in any way is not in the long term interest of my pocket. I'll keep spending what I said I'd spend on players because that will be my defence when we are diabolical on the pitch, but as far as everything else football related will be done on a strict as fuck budget. That way the other shareholders won't begrudge me being paid as handsomely as I am, because I am continually building Enic's portfolio of assets and increasing the value of my shares as very nice side effect. This is in fact the financial equivalent of doing the league and cup double every season, so unlike the team itself there is nothing Spursy about me, and it's all about the double bubble, ta very muchly.

So when you look at it objectively it has been a game changer.... For Enic, For Daniel, and for the other board members..... Just not for the club!

The more that I've thought about this quote the more that it's pissed me off, and show just how much the protests and general discussion around Levy are getting to him. He's now pivoted from being defensive to going on the attack. Both of the two statements are pretty much direct responses to the two main criticisms of him; (1) he doesn't spend enough money and (2) we're a club that cares more about concerts and racing than he does about the football.

"We cannot spend what we do not have, and we will not compromise the financial stability of this club"

You don't care about the club, I know what's best. You'd bankrupt it if I acted how you wanted me to.

"indeed, our off-pitch revenues have significantly supplemented the lower football revenues this year, testament to our diversified income strategy"

Thank god I had us invest in all of these commercial activities because if I didn't do it we'd be even more screwed than we already are.

Yeah. He's gaslighting us now.

No fan wants the club to be driven into bankruptcy. But we want to see a little bit more ambition and if we have to operate on a budget, we'd like it to be done smartly like Brentford and Brighton do.

This Advisory committee are they just Yes men or are they only able to bring up subjects agreed by the club like ticket prices etc?
The questions I would want answered are,
1 what are the targets that Levy achieved to get a bonus?
2 Does he get a bonus if we win a trophy or are his bonuses simply to do with income or Commercial deals?
Now the accounts do show that Levy’s income went down but surely if we do not win the Europa and as expected end up in our lowest PL position his income should decrease again.

Cannot see these questions ever getting answered.but it would clarify why he acts like he does.

Questions I'd like to see addressed.

Why do we spend a lower proportion of our revenue on player wages than every other club.

What did you mean when you said the new stadium will be a game changer.

If,as you claim, every penny generated from third party revenue is invested back in the team, why do we invest less in our team than other clubs with no such revenue

How do you justify the highest ticket prices in Europe when your football club serves up a sub standard product on the pitch

Why does Tottenham Hotspur no longer win anything

Why did the 2 serial winners you employed both fail for the one and only time in their careers working for you

When will you and the Lewis cartel sell up and fuck off

I could go on and on. But I think that's a reasonable start

Which forum?

What's interesting here is that Levy (or the 'club') seem to be acknowledging that he did indeed make the statement......But it applied to the club he previously owned.... the one he owned at that time..not his current one.

The words Leopards and Spots spring to mind.

The only conclusion is that he saw Tottenham Hotspur as a bigger financial opportunity than Rangers

Hopefully we can now all put this bullshit “quote” to rest.

Has all the hallmarks of Levy doing his big shop, muttering to his missus “I’m not paying that” whilst holding a bottle of Heinz ketchup and then this forum spends decades attributing the quote to not pitching up the cash for Mbappe.

Utterly disgusting by the club - they don't want this quote seen as they know it reflects exactly how they think about football.

Keep using it. Relentlessly.

You can’t argue that Levy doesnt seize opportunities. Ever. Never maximises a position of strength

We currently have a big opportunity to spend, based on the 30 events happening. Other clubs don’t have r this headroom, however they will.

It currently creates an opening for us to maximise but there’s not a chance in hell that other clubs don’t copy this and catch us up. Others will do the same and the value of those niche will be removed

It's actually quite a clever play by CFT.

They are undeniably Levy's words and he would have to explain publicly that they have been used out of context; which the coward would never do.

It was a crass and stupid thing to say about any football club when you are an owner.

It's typical of Levy and ENIC's MO.

Contempt for the punters.

He’s pretty much already said he won’t be seizing on any opportunities football related .

It’s the same old story but now he has non footballing revenue so whatever losses we make through football failure is covered
