The problem we have is that Levy has built a 2 headed monster and the wrong head of the two is thriving . We are a football club first and foremost , but the football side of things is becoming a side-line to the corporate side of the club . It's fine Levy giving himself £4.5mil bonus if we're thriving in PL . But to focus all his energy into Hotels and the like whilst we are finishing 17th in the PL table is not on . No one would care if he paid himself £20mil bonus's if we were winning PL trophy , but we haven't . The football is becoming a bi-product of the commercial side of the club . There used to be a football club over there .

Why does that matter? We have hired several layers of football directors and so on to handle the footballing side.

The club can't really win with that. Lots of anti-levy sentiments are "get him away from the football side", so he does, then it's "why is he neglecting the football side? where is he?"

Serious point being made - why is it so schizophrenic like that? And why do people still insist simultaneously that he's not paying attention to football, and yet apparently micromanaging and interfering at the same time.

I'm quite happy with him, as I have always been, because I 100% believe there's not a single human being available that would have been able to self-fund us all the way to where we are now, commercially, financially, and off the pitch. More importantly, he doesn't seem to be at all a bad person - even if people are constantly trying to make out like he's "despicable" or whatever. Bloke has done a lot more for the club than a long list of players and managers we're not allowed to talk about in the same manner. He and the likes of the Oystons are very very far apart. Certainly him and Sugar, who no one seems to ever criticise despite running the club into the ground on both a footballing and financial level.

Two days running the Telegraph ( yeah I know ) has been pumping out how Lange & Frank used to share an office together.

From what I've heard lange has had a hand in alot of good things since he joined. He is the one that has really led and improved the data led approach we are now taking which has led to alot of our young gems being signed such as bergvall and gray.
I'm a fan personally and he's defo one of the ones I'd trust out of the bunch.

“Now, this is my kind of poster. There’s a place for you in the non-paying side of myour PR operation!”

All valid questions that no one ever wants to answer, though.

Sometimes - certainly on reddit - it seems like young or new fans turn up and think it's like some sort of tradition or rite of passage to throw shade at the club like that, and don't actually have the foggiest notion of how fucking depressing it was in the 90s

Quite skillful trolling here, good craftsmanship to it.

And some of us do.

It’s not a free pass all the time.

I don't know why rationality is trolling, but whatever.

Kind of is though isn't it. Anyone who was a supporter in that time would have seen a sleepy sugar let the other clubs accelerate away whilst spunking all the cash on awful players, and hiring awful managers. You could be forgiven for thinking Sugar was an Woolwich fan trying to discretely damage us on purpose. It feels so weird to me to have seen the slow but progressive restoration of where the club was, to where we've got to - considering all football gods have done to try and hold us back (in the sense of the landscape changing, weird rules and things that affected only us, stadium bans when we'd finally opened the new stadium etc).

I, respectfully, disagree. Sure, after Sugar, most fans would have had some sympathy/a grace period, but he’s been at it a quarter of a century now, with, I think someone counted 9 reorganisations of the club and less trophy success than we should have had in that time period.

Based on what metrics?

If we're basing it off how football "used to be", then totally not. The PL era introduced solid monopolies that have only worsened over the last 20 years or so.
Our closest 'rivals' in stature were Villa and Everton. Their last trophies were in 1996 and 1995.

I think the issue at times is people comparing us to Liverpool, Man Utd, and Woolwich. We were never a team that regularly won titles but for maybe 3 distinct, short-lived patches of time.

He only said that afterwards when it become apparent we wouldn’t pay, Slot was gettable but he wanted his coaches and the fee escalated. When it collapsed he then said he wanted to stay. I believe even one of the board actually called him out on it as well so he lied. He also through shade at Trent for wanting to leave Liverpool to Madrid. For all the Slot’s nice guy image he has another side to him. £15m is a lot but he is a pretty elite coach.

Actually Slot said it was for 99% family reason he did not come

So you're satisfied with us finishing in 17th place then . He hires these so called football directors and then tells them what to do . He has a hand in every deal the club does causing us to end up with a poor second rate players instead of our original first choice , because he won't budge on his own valuation of players . I'm not trying to paint an ugly side of him , the fact is he micro manages us and then doesn't want to take any of the blame . Why do you think there's protests outside the ground ? I'll give you a clue - We're one of the richest clubs in Europe and we behave like a small club when it comes to buying top talent . Typical trying to pull the wool over the supporters eyes - instead of paying the going rate for Bruno Fernandez , he went and bought Gedson Fernandez . "Why" - because he wouldn't pay what he was worth and he thought we'd be stupid enough not to notice .
You keep sticking up for him if it floats your boat . But instead of being pro-active and going out and buying an £80mil player to give us the edge when it comes to winning honours , he'll sit back and let the house fall down around him , then he'll be re-active when the chips are down . I used to be a pro Levy , but you try travelling home when you've been pumped on the road by Toon , Everton , Liverpool , when they shut half the roads down and you get home at 2am to 4am in the morning - it rankles because we've got a poor squad . I missed 5 games last season . I went to nearly every game home and away . Levy said this new stadium would be a game changer - it's changed us all right , we've ended up a worse run club because of it .
We've just had our first glory for 17yrs , and if counting Europe 41 yrs . Levy has been here more than half of that time . Who else do you suggest we blame then ?
