Should have gone big with Conte. All in. And hands off to leave him to get on with it. We might just have come close to league and won something else.

Pretty sure Conte had £180m spent when he was here.

People are just using hindsight to pick at the transfers, ignoring the fact that they were all players he seemed to want minus the odd one like Spence

Not to entirely disagree, but the notion of the ambitions and the intentions of the club being dictated by what manager happens to have been available is in fact really a symptom of the deeper and more lasting problem.

This club is either going to decide that its purpose is to make a football team worthy of the best of its history and the revenue it intends to extract from its fans, or it's not.

Tbf having us in fifth in his second season wasn’t too bad, especially in hindsight considering where we are now.

But we’d probably be stuck with a bunch of thirty something’s in a year if he got everything he wanted.

And of course he would’ve walked leaving us with them.

Conte arrived near the nadir of the squad quality outside of Kane and Son. The players bought during his period did improve the squad, but from a shambolically low baseline.

79 points from his first 38 league games in charge was a remarkable performance with the tools he had.

Both in terms of what he's capable of whipping a squad into shape and then what becomes inevitable thereafter, Conte was as advertised.

He'd have filled the squad with oddball signings, then engineered a sacking and left us in a mess

Nah absolute nonsense. He clearly was fuming at the lack of backing.

His remit was simple. Build from the back and get effective centre backs and wingback to suit his system, and a leader in midfield.

We was continually linked to negotiating for bastoni, skriniar, dumfries, brozovic and porro who he had for a handful of matches but it was too late, the downturn in form had occurred after we farted about negotiating for him.

Even Luis Diaz, he implied we hadn't tried hard enough to snag.

The theme was he wanted top talent. In fact the best two players he got were bentancur and kulusevski who were actually cast offs out of form. And perisic, a 33 year old who was injury prone.

Club is gone. Just a case of how far and how long we will drop now. Too many times over too many years have they allowed our club to be treated like a urinal. The butt of jokes and memes. Imagine the goons putting up with 1/10th of what we have had to go through. No other club enables this.
