Ex-Spurs Player Eric Dier

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Good as gold, one of your own, be a laugh on a night out etcetc but when we're 15 nil down against Luton at home because you've got one centre half trying to break limbs and the other with his hands behind his back doing an impromptu river dance every time the ball is in the box then all that won't matter. I'm sure we've all had jobs where there's always one that gets away with all sorts and every one else has to pick up the slack. It's low for team morale

So, my take on the documentary is that Eric is a lovely character and a decent human being.
Didn't realize that he had been at Everton for a year.
He's a bit like me in that he was born one nationality but considers another country as his home.
I feel that he progressed well to a certain level, but hasn't really hit the heights and don't think he's going to improve on his latest performances (but I would love to be proven wrong).
The cynic in me thinks that the documentary was made to pull on our heartstrings before offering him a new contract. We have to admit that if no new CB is joining us this transfer window, then we have to persevere with him and Romero as our first choice pairing ( heaven help us and Elmo).
Let's see if Ange's tactics and coaching can bring out his best before assigning him to the bin.
Because there was no competition, he just got worse and worse.

Believe it or not the club are actually well aware what they put out on Twitter, they do read Tweets and so do the players so it wouldn't come as a complete surprise that they put this kind of content out to show Dier in a good light...like he's actually human and a good human at that and despite what you think of him as a footballer they probably believe that the personal abuse is a bit shitty and OTT.

I still find the reaction weird, some right dangers out there.

been a strong window so far with a new keeper, maddison and lucas replacement. if dier signs a new contract its going to be an absolute buzz kill, would be a stupid thing to do. dump dier off and sign two new CB and the club will be going into the new season with everyone buzzing, will be flying from the off!

he was injured after the world cup, played through the injury and has just had surgery

you'd have thought his own fans would understand that but I guess not

Injuries do not explain the god awful errors of judgement, hospital passes and the bizarre non tackling, backing off technique when a player is running at him which has been going on for at least 3 seasons. There are very few fans of other clubs who rate dier.If we are do anything under postecoglou dier must be upgraded on ASAP.

injured or not is irrelevant, hes not fucking good enough. if you think hes good enough then youre completely unaware of the standards required.

last season, we recorded the best premier league start in the club's history. dier played every game in that run

The hatred for Dier is completely misguided. He is a £5m utility player who has had a key role in the squad because all the other players signed for his position have been worse than him.

The ire should be directed at our coaches and executives who thought that Davinson, Rodon and Lenglet would be better than him.

For Dier to leave or even come out of the starting XI, we need to make a signing at CB which we don’t seem to be close to doing. That should be the focus of fan rage. We had a worse defence than Everton last season yet we haven’t signed a defender ready for preseason.

No, he's not. He's been a starter for years and that's simply unacceptable. He started for a couple of seasons in CM and made relentless mistakes. He was then moved back to CB and carried on the relentless mistakes.
On top of that, he's wound up in the "leadership team" which is downright embarrassing.
He's barely premier league level, let alone the level of a club at least masquerading as a top 4/top 6 level.

And at the moment, somehow, he's still probably just about the best option we have to partner Romero. He isn't good enough to be a bench warmer as he can't be relied on when called on. That's how bad our defence is.

Well, yeah. He was signed as a utility player for a cheap fee. That he became part of the spine is damning not for him, but for all the shit midfielders and defenders that couldn’t do better.
