but I'm not arguing that he is good enough.

I'd rather a player that puts in maximum effort and is just poor ability wise over a player that actively doesn't tackle and doesn't put effort in (and is also poor ability wise).


In reality they should both be sold.

He can be a complete donkey at times but poch used to rate him. Think he was very much a regular first team player under him.

Then Mourinho happened, then Nuno, Conte and some Mason in between. His gametime definitely evaporated under them 4. Our defence has been much worse under them than with Poch , so thats a positive for Sanchez(you have to go back 30 years for our defense to concede more than it has right now ). Of course its not all Dier's fault for the defense being shit, Davies , Perisic and Lloris were bad, Forster is worse.

Just had a quick look at who played more CL games under poch when sanchez got here. He started 20 CL matches under poch in 3 years while Dier started 13 in those years (although dier was injured a few times, but still thats a big enough difference to see Poch got rated Sanchez)

I was referring the the “he only playing because he is English” bit. Sanchez has been here nearly as long and is just as bad and still plays a fair bit and is clearly not English

Wasnt Dier mostly a DM in Poch's last season , so his injuries dont really affect Sanchez. probably Winksoko got more game time as a result. Thought Mourinho then came in and changed him back to CB (genius)?

Hard to remember now, I'll check out some youtube clips.

You mean 19/20 before he was sacked?

He was playing Toby & Jan as first choice still where possible. Dav's was never 1st/2nd choice..... Even though I've long said that he should have retained his place when Toby was out for that long stint in 17/18. I don't think Dav's confidence ever recovered from that tbh.

No i meant18/19 as you said Dier's injury was the reason Sanchez got more games in 18/19 .

Also if Dav didnt like being benched for Toby and Vert..he's mad. Almost every CB in all top 4 clubs in those days would have been benched for Toby and Vert. (when age hadnt caught up with them yet)
 
I think mings is probably the only cb in the league worse than dier that is in a decent team .
No top team in premier league would buy dier. He might go to Italy or Portugal.
I’d let him go now for free and save the wages.
