None, just getting the Dier fans excited.

If Dier does get his new 3yr contract, Ange will have to play him eventually. In my mind, Eric is just a backup at CB these days, but wouldn't be surprised if the Big Fella decided to play him in that CM anchor role, as he did with McGregor at Celtic. For sure Dier don't have the same level of speed or movement, but he can definitely spread passes...short and long.
Also think Dier is that type of dude you really need to give lots of love to for him to perform at his best. Even though Mourinho & Conte played him lots, I don't think they had the emotional connection with him that Ange could develop.
I'm still in favour of him leaving, or if he stays that he be on the bench, but if the board does give him a new contract, may as well give the lad one final shot. He wasn't always shite...

Had a little look at FBRef today when I was bored to see if Dier's stats reflected how shite he has been this season and my god did it highlight just what we thought... some telling per90 stats below for his last year compared to other CBs in the top 5 leagues:
- Long pass completion = 58% (bottom 40%)
- Tackles = 0.97 (bottom 11%)
- Dribblers challenged = 0.63 (bottom 5%)
- Dribblers tackled = 0.29 (bottom 2%)
- Tackle success = 45.8% (bottom 6%)
- Blocks = 1.18 (bottom 46%)
- Interceptions = 1.13 (bottom 40%)
- Errors = 0.10 (bottom 11%)
Had good comparative stats in short/med passing and heading... thats about it. Seems like our lynchpin of the back 3 had a year of doing just about fuck all defending. Seems about right.

THe tackle, block, interception numbers are especially disgusting given how much we've been on the back foot this season.
Man's been given plenty of opportunity to pump up his numbers.
