Ben Davies is also a left back, an area we have 0 cover in bar him. Maybe we wouldn't be dealing with the problem of his injury taking out cover for 2 positions if we had an additional CB to cover the 4th choice slot.

Had high hopes for him, but has been so disappointing, it's his lack of effort and discipline that is so frustrating, def not at the level required.
Ben rarely plays at LB anymore.......
Ange has opted to play Gray there ahead of him this season..... And Gray ahead of Spence for that matter....... (He underlined this thought process in his presser at the weekend too!). Ergo any depth problem at FB is on the gaffa...............
We have 4 CBs currently registered..... And in Ange's head 4 FBs.
It's not a numbers issue.
What a manager says in the press and how he really feels rarely align, if Ange really felt we had adequate cover at full back on either side would Porro and Udogie have the 1st and 2nd most minutes played respectively of all players in our squad? Considering how hard full backs have to work in the modern game (particularly in Ange's system) and those being areas of the pitch top sides will generally look to rotate a lot in? I don't think it's any coincidence both of those players have seen their performances drop off at this stage in the season. If Davies is not seen as a left back at all any more we have 4 CBS true but we have 1 LB and 3 RBs, one of which the manager has frozen out until he has absolutely had to play him despite him looking quite bright in his appearances so far. You can't tell me we wouldn't have been better off at numerous stages this season if Gray could have been spared to give Porro a reprieve playing in a more familiar to him RB role had we bought an actual decent full back, leaving Davies to cover as 4th CB and he could even have gotten a fee for Spence to cover the outlay? Makes no sense to me we have people making up the numbers that the manager outright refuses to play until he's forced to by injury. Even if he thinks they're not good enough for the squad in the long run we have had bit part players who weren't good enough get meaningful minutes under all our previous managers, Ange seems to be the most set in playing his absolute strongest XI in every single match consequences be damned.
