Jose's post-match comments hinted at a lot imo.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho told BT Sport: "Attacking football only wins matches when we don't make more defensive mistakes. We scored four goals and four goals was not enough.

"If it hurts me [the lack of defending], it hurts everyone from our team because the feeling is that we played really well, when we had the ball we were brave, we created.

"We were the best team winning 1-0, and certainly in five minutes, there was, poom poom poom, mistake, mistake, mistake, goal, goal, goal."

On Bale not being in the squad: "Well I think it's better for me to say. We played against West Brom on Sunday, he didn't play, Monday I was a little bit surprised by him wanting to have a scan because he was not feeling comfortable with the muscular area, so he didn't train on the Monday.

"Then on the Tuesday he trained with the team, but I was informed that his desire was to work with the sport science to strengthen the area he was not feeling comfortable with, and that is the reason why he was not here."

1. His comments on attacking football only work if we do not make defensive mistakes. We are going back to playing a defensive style for sure in the future imo. He let the team attack and look what happened, 5 goals allowed.

2. His comments on Bale, Bale is done. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Bale was faking injuries.

Alot to like tonight. All depends on how jose views it. Does he view it that attack is best form of defence for this team in most games bar big away days or over analyse on individual mistakes no manager can legislate for. If we went for games with same intent luke tonight guarantee we would be 10 points better off in the league. Need big investment in back 4 and personally I would replace lloris. With skipp and lo celso back I'd let winks sissoko dele go then add a genuine 10.

If we'd won tonight, playing how we played, then there is an argument for all out attacking football....

But sadly, TRAGICALLY for our club right now, we llost playing that way... which unfortunately plays into Mourinho's hands, and his philosophy of defensive football.

I think he took a risk tonight, and he's probably glad it didn't pay off... proves his defensive ethos right.

Don't expect us to try scoring more than 2 in a game again this season!
But it remains to be seen if we concede more than 3 again!

If they're out of their depth (which I'd agree with), they are legitimate targets, aren't they? It's not really their fault that they're not good enough, but it's not the fans' fault either.
Yep, they are legitimate targets. There tend to always be players who are targets regardless of what they do, and that can frankly be on the fans who are being unfair.

Now with Winks, Sissoko, and Lucas they tend to be targeted and with typically good reason. The fact is that Winks got 10 pages of shit thrown at him for one mistake (not defending him) and we gave up four other goals and the total combined bitching about other players was maybe just slightly more than that.

2. His comments on Bale, Bale is done. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Bale was faking injuries.
Bale will always be playing with one eye on the Euros.

The reunion was a nice idea, but ultimately we're a tool for him to get fit for the one type of football (internationals) that he actually gives a shit about. Perhaps if we were in a title challenge he'd be inclined to stretch that little further to reach the ball or sprint that bit harder but he is terrified of feeling something ping while playing.

Ultimately, for a player who made his name through explosive runs, etc it just leaves a husk of his former self lining up for us. Maybe post-Euros that fear will be gone and we'd see something more like his old self, but we sure as fuck aren't going to find out.

It was nice to actually enjoy a game, I know we lost and was a real shame but felt good to actually enjoy an exciting game of football with something on the line, the cagey premier league bollox has been tedious for a while, games I think no fans enjoy for most sides

We were unlucky, some real positives here, the movement was back, Lamela at heart of it, Davinson although in goals sadly can be a liability at the back however

Let’s push in the Europa I say and make every game like that

Just one of those games tbh.

Lucas misses a sitter early on - but we still go ahead first.

Hojbjerg, who has been as consistent as consistent can be, makes an error which leads to the equaliser which Lloris really should save.

They then score another goal, which again Lloris probably should save.

Then Hojbjerg concedes a penalty, which tbh was quite harsh but we would have been fuming if it wasn't given for us.

We continue to play our game and eventually it got back to 3-3.

Ndombele is blatantly fouled in the build up to their 4th goal. But we come back and make it 4-4.

Winks then absolutely loses his mind and Everton end up scoring the winner, which actually comes moments after Harry Kane misses a brilliant chance to put us ahead.

Crazy game. Highly entertaining. I don't think our attacking structure and play were the cause for any of our goals personally. Which is promising in that regard.

But we need to cut out the mistakes. I doubt Hojbjerg will make 2 more mistakes again this season. Get Aurier, Rodon and Reguilon back in there to make it our strongest defensive back line in front of Lloris and keep Kane fit and we'll be fine.

Won't get top 4 - but if we play the way we are plying, it'll go a long way for Mourinho.
On the equalizer, Davies didnt do PEH any favors. At the best, PEH would have still been immediately under pressure.

For the 4th, Ndombele played himself into a corner and was hoping for the foul.

I would much rather we play like that and lose than lose like pussies playing the cowardly shit anti-football we've done in other games.

If we can just find a top class centre-half (or preferably 2) then add that to that team and we win that game easily. Our big challege is doing that on our budget and being able to offload our deadwood which we've found almost impossible to do.

dont help that every game our deadwood features it devalues them more and more.

the core is there to build off, but like you say we need 2 CB's and a solid RB, before we can be confident of having a defence we can rely on

Spot on. Obviously gutted we lost, but, we lost having a go.
It's all about balance.
Somebody mentioned further up that Jose may have been trying to prove a point about tactics.
Not sure I agree totally, but, there might be something in it.
Go gung-ho, score goals, even without your top scorer on the pitch.
You will have to prepare to defend as a team, not just as a back 3/4/5.
Ultimately, that's why we lost tonight.
Hate to say it, but when Dele and Winks were introduced our intensity dropped, mistakes arose and ultimately we left ourselves with too much to do.
Jose will know who needs to go, he will also have people in mind to replace them.
Levy needs to back him in the summer for the team to move forward.
I really enjoyed the game tonight even though we lost, because the players that started the match actually looked like they gave a fuck.
In hindsight. I think Jose may well be on the money when it comes to Winks and Dele.
The game still enthralled me, its just the tempo went off the boil a little. Enough to turn the tide.
Ironically, it seemed that the subs played a big part in that.
Who would of thought after the Chelsea "No Show", we could of put on a performance like tonight.
Fine tuning is all we need, albeit, expensive fine tuning.
Sanchez as a shit defender is a fantastic goal poacher when given the opertunity.
Perhaps there is space for him in the squad, but, 2 goals don't make up for all the mistakes he makes when playing with Davies, don't even get me started on Davies.
Anyway, that game reminded me of early Ardiles game plans, we all know how that turned out.
Great to watch, bad for the heart and imploded pretty quickly.
I don't think it was a coinsidense that Jose chose a cup game against someone he actually likes to make a few points.
Let's give him the summer window and some games up to Xmas to judge him on.
:mourthumb:
Just my opinion on how I see things are at the mo.
Oh yeah, and, I'm very very drunk.

Like the 5-4 FA Cup defeat against Man City all those years ago... we're gonna be made to relive this, and accept this 'cos it was an 'FA CUP CLASSIC'!
...but fuck that, we scored 4, but that still wasn't enough 'cos we conceded 5... when's the last time a Jose team conceded FIVE (i'm genuinely curious!) We've turned Jose Spursy!

Fucking hell Spurs, I was ACTUALLY trying to enjoy tonight... but fuck that 'cos Jose's Spurs can't let us actually enjoy ourselves watching football... so I didn't. I did what Jose demanded... hate football, even though we scored 4....

I thought Jose used to shut up shop at 1-0... what the fuck happened to that myth?
People cried when he did it. Most on here called for his sack. God forbid Spurs defend they said. They’d rather lose 4-3, than win 1-0, some said here. What do you want, really?

LOL at the bullshit notion that we were winning games 1-0 under Jose playing his negative style.

The reality is not would you rather lose 5-4 or win 1-0 under Jose its lose 5-4 or lose 1-0.

Hopefully the last time we see Winks in a Spurs shirt. Ever since he came on for Tanguy we should’ve known it was curtains

We are a whole new defence away from a really good side. Unfortunately that consists of nearly half our team.
