It's not quite the same though. It's more like finding out your partner committed murders and grassing them up.

Boehly wasn't there committing the crimes and, possibly wouldn’t have purchased them if he knew what he'd find after the deal went through.
I might be wrong here, but I don't think ignorance is a defence here. He would be expected to carry out due diligence before buying the club.

I've never heard of any serious businessman buying a business without a full appraisal of the accounts. If they'd done a proper job, then surely they'd have seen the anomalies in payments?

How dumb do you have to be to buy the club then, shortly afterwards, find those anomalies? We're talking about a multi Billion pound purchase here, you'd normally get forensic accountants all over the books for weeks before signing the contract.

I just cannot see how Boehly and his mob didn't know about them before he bought the club.

Sheffield Utd B team mate. B team! That was an absolute embarrassment of a game. Of course he didn't assemble that squad but he sure as fuck hired the person who did.

Levy is the head of a business and when the core of that business is starting to fail, questions have to be asked and the finger ultimately gets pointed at the top. That's the same everywhere. If I assemble a team to do a job and they fail, I get it in the neck from the people who employed us to see a project through to completion.

You have a vision. You get a manager. You get the players in that that manager wants. If they're too expensive or the manager's inflexible here, or his head's so far up his egotistical arse he doesn't finally give a fuck about the club, you've picked the wrong manager and you suffer the consequences. Mourinho, Nuno, Conte ... mixed messages and jumbled wires all over the place.

Now contrast that with the success off the pitch. Beyonce concerts, go-karts, hotels ... the money starting to pour in. Brilliantly run. Envy of the league. Is it any wonder many of us started to think that Levy should either go or stick to the business side of things and leave the football alone?

We know that settling on a playing style, recruiting the right people and building a squad using players liked by the manager works. It's exactly what's happening now.

I'm a live-in-the-now and look-to-the-future bloke so don't really want to start arguing about this shit again. Right now it's an absolute riot being a Spurs fan again and I genuinely think we're heading into a golden spell. Levy in.
Spot on and also bare in mind the master plan looking all masterful ignores the fact that yet again if we had got Levy's first pick we'd be managed by Arne Slot. He almost always gets the answer wrong initially regarding football appointments and lucks into getting a good fit. Louis van Gal, Andre Villas Boas anyone.

Is that true? I remember Slot's name being mentioned but I didn't know he was Levy's first choice. Was it Slot who turned us down and stayed put for more cash? I'm probably misremembering.

Levy, Slot, Munn (Conte) ... too many bald men back then for my brain to handle.

The deal was forced through so quickly, I wouldn't be surprised if he was told he wouldn't be held liable for anything done under Abramovic.

His only excuse is if it was all off the books. Doesn't excuse Chelsea and should still be pinished but makes him look slightly less inept

If the shit hits the fan I expect they will pull the Government in and claim that they were given assurances to help purchase what was, in effect, a distressed asset.
There is some precedence in this type of case to say that Chelsea cannot escape punishment merely because the false accounting took place under the previous administration. Luton in their 30 point deduction season were handed the larger of their 2 points deductions for financial irregularities in the accounts from the previous administration, and despite appealing on the grounds that it was nothing to do with them, it was still upheld, because Luton had still benefitted from the false accounts. Although technically true that Clearlake are not culpable for Abramovich's crimes, if it can be proven the false accounting directly benefitted the team on the pitch, Chelsea Football Club is still the prime beneficiary of said false accounting, and any ill-gotten trophies they won in the process can argue to be unfairly contested. For that reason, I won't be surprised if they get the book thrown at them despite Boehly's cooperation with the investigation. Their rampant spending since the takeover won't have helped to take any attention off of them either.

This is Levy's moment, isn't it? Massive credit to the FA/PL if they have actually grown balls with regards to FFP.

It keeps making me think about a certain phrase, and how perhaps in the land of the overspenders, the well-run club is king...

Nothing to suggest that Arne Slot would have been the 'wrong' choice is there?

The trouble with the system is that the likes of Chelsea and Man City can afford the best legal teams. It’s just another injustice on the likes of Forest and Everton and typical of the football authorities to prosecute the ‘low hanging fruit’

Levy did always say the Stadium would be the reason we can start competing with the corrupt money teams. I hope in the future we do start winning trophies again and we acknowledge Levy’s part in that with a friendly little pat on his bald head

Daniel Levy is just owed one big apology from our fans

Not really. He's made some mistakes which he has rightly been criticised for. He's also done some good things which he should be praised for.

If, indeed, he's somehow foreseen this whole 'fpp biting big spenders on the arse' thing, then fair play to him.

But he is not immune from criticism, and nobody owes him an apology.
