Should be approx. 3 weeks until the 3 judge panel get to the end of the 115 charges that make up the PL case against City.

I wonder if Pep agreeing an extension is symbolic of early noises coming from the enquiry.

Man City and Chelsea ,the 2 clubs who have abused the system , one with over 100 charges against them, the other who got out of jail be selling their hotel to themselves. Both with tons and tons of money and these 2 have been invited to take part in the Club World Cup. £60 million just for taking part, £130 million to the winners. Jesus all the others might as well pack up and go home.

I don’t really understand football finance ; but I get the feeling that some on here do .

My genuine question is ; how can Man City make so much money ? when their ground isn’t the biggest , their wage bill is relatively huge , ticket prices not the highest, global fan-base not all that etc .

I understand that winning stuff earns you prize money (as does being on telly ) . But is that all there is to it ?

Once again; it’s a genuine question.

Their wage bill and other expenses (outgoings) are irrelevant here as this is just a “revenue” (incomings) figure. And I would imagine sponsorships (many of which are related party) make up a good chunk.

Thanks ; I get your point about wages / TFs not being relevant to their income .

Which is where their owners also being the people who sponsor their shirts and stadium come in ( ? ) . And whatever other “ deals” they may have in place through (?) third parties.

I’m guessing with a more level playing field their rivals across the city , say would probably out-do them on the income-front .

Again: apologies if some of my questions seem a bit basic .

TV revenues, for which success in the league and progression in the CL is paramount, is the largest piece of the pie.

City don't have the matchday in-stadium revenue we do (though they aren't miles off), they don't have the sponsorship income United does (though they aren't miles off, related party flim-flam notwithstanding), but because they win they make the most TV money and that carries the day.

They probably get huge sponsorship deals off the back of their success

ManC’s commercial revenue is bigger than their tv revenue.

They don't

A big part of the PL case against them is they've got emails from City to their sponsors and their owners (all owned by the same family) showing the sponsorship deals to be (partly) fabricated with the money coming direct from their owners.

And managers, players and agents being paid by third party companies (owned by their owner) to keep City's actual spending hidden.

Genuinely grateful for the link : thank you .

Having speed read it ; the two things that strike me are that 1) Performance and revenue are (obviously) crucially linked and ( and seriously I’m not trying to cause trouble here ) we seem to be out-performing á whole lot of bigger clubs in terms of our non-performance-linked income . But 2) fall behind because of the risk-and-reward side of things .

Man City would thus seem to be riding a wave ; investing ( however it was done ) and then collecting their
“ winnings “ on their investment . Which unlike Leeds in the 90’s could always somehow be underwritten.

Strange old world.

Obviously I may have oversimplified things but I think I get it ; far more than when I asked my original question.

Thank You again for the link .

Sheikh the money box and see what comes out. The Sheiks plough money in for fun.

City are in effect sponsoring themselves as a way of getting around ffp.

City's success on the pitch makes this easier as sponsorship deals as they are compared to "market value". They use the success to justify getting similar deals as Man U and Madrid but on the true market would never have got anywhere near.

Everyone knew they were doing this but proving without a smoking gun is near on impossible. The smoking gun was hacked emails that had them admitting it. This is where the 115 charges come from.

This is all to allow UAE to sportswash and increase soft power.

*They have also sold a shit load of players recently, lots of them youth meaning loads of wiggle room for ffp.
