Don't tend to see it these days, especially at home, and I don't go away these days. But when I was travelling in the 80s, it was a different story. Although I didn't personally get involved in violence, it came close on a few occasions - Liverpool, Newcastle, Leicester, Wolves were all nasty places. Don't want to go back to those days, so I'm hoping that the stupid Milwall fans come nowhere near WHL tomorrow - we're not quite ready for that end to be demolished yet!

The Bear...Better known as Denton(Actually Dainton) he was out of the Noel Park estate in Wood Green.
He's passed on now, so no harm in mentioning his name.
He was security/Body guard for the Pet Shop boys.Woolwich had two Greek brothers who were well known in the 80s .The older one was "special friends" with Neil Tennant* ,and thats how Denton got into security.

*That's how it was described at the time and not me being a Dinosaur.

Don't think so. I've seen the odd fight but dunno if it was firms. I do remember the criminal defence firm I used to work for, who were based in Leytonstone, got loads of clients who were Spam fans a while back. Think there was a massive brawl between them and opposition fans a few years ago? One of my colleagues was a Spam fan, which may have been why he represented most of them :nawty:

I wonder if they got out of there alive. I stood there once right at the back of the North Bank.
I was wearing a Tottenham belt and my Woolwich mates told me to cover it the fuck up.
At another game there I saw a big fight break out when at least a hundred Yids went into that stand incognito.
And at some time during the game they introduced themselves to the gooners.

They was taken between 76-78.They probably got out of there unharmed.It was an occupied zone in the era i have stated.There were probably 100s of other Tottenham fans in there with them

I was talking with a work colleague of mine, a middle aged gooner. I asked him about the elusive Bones character
and he replied, 'oh, you mean Pat Bones. Yeah, he was one of the gang along with Denton.' (My colleague is a retired football hooligan). He also said that a lot of the Millwall hoolies are ex army.

Where to start!

75-85 was basically a free for all.

I have been in home ends at away games on plenty of occasions. It was about making a show more than anything else though. Always made it out alive (near thing few times).

There was always that moment of dread though when you announced yourself and you realised it was just you and half a dozen mates in there. A hasty retreat was made.
 
As its NLD weekend,worth mentioning my first.27thDecember 1976(I was 8) Woolwich didnt show in numbers back then,since they took the piss in 71 and spurs got their act together. They had sparsely(and I mean sparsely)filled half the park lane,and were all in place early doors. In them days you could walk round the ground(it changed shortly after this) and small groups of spurs had been walking round to the park lane via the Worcester Ave . At about half 2 the shout when up and the goons were ran into about a quarter of what they had. That's the way it was like back then. Last time I recall the north bank being cleared was 81 or 82,literally on kick off. Come the late 80s they seemed more of a unit. 87( I think) they brought loads to WHL. Filled the park lane and over spilled into the cage.I was just the other side of the cage fence that day,and they were up for it. What a difference 11years had made.
 
Not organised but seeing as we are in NLD land saw a funny incident late 90,s at the Lane.

I was in the Park Lane, Scum scored and a couple of fellas jumped up in the front row of the East Lower, by the Park Lane. Obviously they started getting walloped, plod steamed down to get them out, instead of leading them round the pitch they attempted to walk them back up towards the exits. The section merged as one to attack these wallys walking up, plod managed to get them out then came back to try and nick people, which resulted in another mass brawl!

Oh the memory's!
